    Possibility But I really have no way of knowing. Where do I get the correct phone number for Smith and Wesson to figure this out? I will add that it does not have wood grips, it's the black rubber wrap around type.

    Not sure what you mean? I don't know a lot about guns, I do know it has an anodized aluminum bottom and steel upper, black. Let me see if I can upload a photo.     Can anyone help date my model 39 My brother recently passed away and I have inherited his model 39, the serial number is only 4 digits starting with 62XX, any ideas?
