May I ask how much you payed for your 29-3. I saw one yesterday in a LGS in Corpus Christi. 6 1/2 INCH nickel. They wanted 1150 for it. Didn't look to see if it was recessed. Was in kind of a hurry so really didn't even handle it. I know missed opportunity.
I hear you Jared. I have been looking at one for a while, then decided I would like a 460V. One of my LGS has both. Which to get first. I can tell you this, which ever one I get and perhaps both in time, my 8 3/8 629-2E isn't going anywhere.
Man I wished I had kept the beautiful model 15 I bought new in the box in 1973. Because I thought I just had to have me a "magnum" I traded it for a Ruger Blackhawk .357. I could just kick myself. Just didn't know what I had.
I have really enjoyed this thread. Glad to hear people are enjoy shooting the 69 so much. Mark F, glad you like yours so well. I don't know about selling the 629 though. Of course, that's up to you, but unless something really serious comes up, I'm keeping my 8 3/8 629-2E. I shoot 50 rounds...
Thanks guys. TDC, going to go ahead and get the x frame grips so I'll be ready when I bring it home. I would like to try some nice wood on it also. Bet it will be beautiful.
sure be glad when I can ransom mine out of layaway! Can't wait, but good things come to those that do wait, right? BTW, how many of you who do have a 69 have changed the grips and if so, what did you put on it?
I'm with you all the way silentflyer. I'm definitely a wheel gun man, esp. long barrels, but wouldn't turn down any revolver, esp. S&W. I do own one auto loader, but it gets shot very little.
I use Trailboss with my .44 mag. for plinking and target loads. Started with 6 grains and 7.4 is listed as max. Very pleasant load to shot with 240 SWC.
I agree with those that have said that it is a matter of preference. Back in the day, I had a 7 1/2" SBH and a 4" M29. I shot the Ruger more and more accurately. I know some are saying, "you shot it more accurately because you shot it more." Could be, but I just preferred the long barrel...
You guys are making me rethink my timeframe for getting my 69 out of layaway. I had my name put on the "list" for when they got another Model 69. I had my hands on the first one they got several weeks ago, but I already had my 629 on layaway (my preferred method of gun purchases), so I...
Just put one on layaway for a month or two today myself. Look forward to shooting it. My second .44 mag this month; and the first new handgun in 36 years.
