I think all of the issues you mentioned result from NOT using the very necessary moon clips. My 929 has had zero problems with any ammo. Of course it has been all factory brass in 124 or 147 grain.
Accuracy is another issue. I have found that the compensator cap does nothing but increase group...
Sorry to read of your mistake in not using the moon clips with that fine firearm. I have one also and would never not use the clips. That being said get yourself a BMT moonclip tool. Pricey but very much worth the investment. The tools are caliber and gun specific so multiple guns with moon...
I've had my 929 for about a year and the accuracy from a rest is quite good. I'm talking short range here of 30'. The rest is far from perfect as am I but I get a ragged hole. Free hand double action is another story. I have always shot double action with the compensator on. Well today, after...
Moon clips with the proper moon clip tool to load and unload them is a wonderful thing. Loading the cylinder is very quick, just drop in the cartridges. Unloading is just as quick, open the cylinder, tip the barrel up and the clip and all of he casings fall out. Speed loaders are a bit bulkier...
I put on a set of Tru Glo TFO sights in green and the brightness at night is great. Daytime is good too. The only issue I had was the front fiber optic piece flew off while shooting. Not good. Sent it back for a replacement and after a few months the new fiber became loose. Sent it back again...
Thanks for the recommendations on sight replacements and here is an update. The company, TruGlo, contacted me and gave an RMA # to send the slide in for a replacement of the TFO sight, Tritium and Fiber Optic. They are going to replace the TFO and upgrade with their TFX sight. These new ones...
OK Gersh, calm down. I have a 649, and while the recoil with .357 is substantial, a set of good rubber stocks will tame the shock to tolerable levels. They will make it so you don't bruise your shoulder either!
Another here with NO issues whatsoever! I was working on shooting the Shield and never cleaning it until a failure of some sort occurred. There was never a failure of any kind up to around 500 rounds. It deserved a cleaning at that point and has YET to malfunction clean or dirty.
I replaced the factory sights on my Shield with some TFO sights, TruGlo, about 1 1/2 years ago. A few months into using them the front fiber optic flew off never to be seen again. Sent the slide to the company and they grudgingly replaced both front and rear sights. Fast forward to today and I...
I also have a 929 and, as with ALL of my revolvers, check the screws before and after all range trips. I am with Lou on this one. You are the one who let the screw be loose, it should not be S&W who foots the bill on this one.
Here is another thought/idea. My shiny new 63 went back to Smith twice for the same problem you are having. Hard to pull trigger in DA but could pull the hammer back and fire in SA. No debris was under the star and the rod was tight. There was a timing issue as a couple dimples appeared on the...
It is definitely just lead build-up. A bit of solvent sitting for a few minutes and a gentle scraping will remove it easily. For a scraper I use a 223 cartridge that has been flattened on the end where the bullet used to be. Works great and cheap and easy to make too.
I have one of these for my 649. It works very well for me and ,unlike an Uncle Mike's holster, it maintains its shape and location in the pocket perfectly.

My Shield 9 is about 1 1/2 years old now. Apex trigger, and TFO night sights. Great carry gun. I have no Talon grip tapes or slide on enhancements to the gun. I found the factory 8 round mag was a better fit for my hand than the shorter 7 rounder and so carried the 8 rounders. Things changed...
