    New Model 52-2

Picked up a "new" 52-2, with box and 2 magazines. It seems to be an extraordinary pistol. Surprised by how well it is made. There is a custom trigger shoe attached with very tiny allen screws. Original cost was $185.00 in 1972 according to papers in the box. Never cheap, that is a little...

S&W model 41 Lets see what you got

Here is a family photo. I have discovered that these are both fun to shoot and fun to hunt for various parts: Shown on the left is a 75xxx with two new and two old mags, on the right is a 600xxx with 3 short mags, and the short conversion above everything else, and a spare set of original...

Model 41 - Range Report, Last Round Misfeed

Fixed. A gentle squeeze at the very front of the lip with a machinist's vise altered the geometry just a bit. Actually a large number of very tiny squeezes, just to be careful. Squeeze - test fit in the gun, see what happens, repeat. There is still about a thousandths play on the one side...

Model 41 - Range Report, Last Round Misfeed

Model 41 - Range Report, Last Round Misfeed

Yes, but the interesting thing is that when only one round is loaded into the magazine, and it is inserted, you can see the round pop up at the wrong angle. Sometimes. Magazine inserted gently, the round stays at the proper angle. It appears that the root cause is the magazine lips not...

Model 41 - Range Report, Last Round Misfeed

I was finally able to take the Model 41 (with the short conversion) out to the range last night. Very nice, with one issue apparently related to magazine tuning. An internet search turned up the suggestion that the front of the magazine lips must touch the round to allow proper positioning...

Found a Model 41 Converted to Short

Got it, and $100 off, plus they found the box and papers. Box confirms it was a regular 41 when new, and the conversion was added later. Probably high market value for a nice model 41, plus is was the short, so it is less common. Thanks for the kind advice.

Found a Model 41 Converted to Short

I travel all over the US for business, and I visit every gun shop I can find just for fun. Friday, on my way home, I found a Model 41 that was converted to short. Not a 41-1, the serial is way too high at A600xxx, just a converted gun. Nice shape, 7-3/8", with muzzle brake, no box, one...
