No more round butts on big frame guns

No design is going to accommodate all shooters. My understanding was that Smith went to round butts on larger frames in order to standardize and reduce costs, not because of ergonomic reasons. Actually, there are very, very few options for conversion grips, and most of them don't really add any...

No more round butts on big frame guns

For the love of god, stop making round butt L and N frames. I hate shooting big guns with midget grips. Not a lot of conversion grip options, either.

    Sooty brass

I shoot 8.5 grains of 800x 45 Colt loads with 255 cast bullets I make myself. This is a sure recipe for sootiness. However I no longer have that problem. The reason I don't is because when I size the brass, I only size about 1/4 of an inch which leaves the rest of the case the same size it was...

    S&W 686 Competitor Questions

I've had mine for over a year and put about 3500 rounds through it - mild to wild. I run my 10 inch gong out 100 meters and I hit that quite well with my handloads. I'm happy with it. The weight really help keep it steady.

Performance Center vs standard production revolvers - worth the extra price?

I bought two of them and both had problems. One went back three times, but it's perfect now. The other is new and needs to go back as well. Were they worth the extra cost, and the hassle? Yes, most definitely. Sending it back was super easy, quick and there was no cost to me.

    Uneven forcing cone erosion

Good point about not mentioning handloads. Unfortunately, I think I may have already done that. Ooops.

    Uneven forcing cone erosion

It's not copper. I've not fired a single jacketed or plated bullet though the gun. I make sure the bore is squeaky clean after shooting. Accuracy is acceptable at first, but not great. Then it becomes terrible. If there is a problem with the gap or alignment, it's going to need to go back to...

    Uneven forcing cone erosion

I happen to concur with you. However, I don't expect any kind of diagnosis or explanation of the cause of the problem. The last gun I sent in went back a total of three times, and all I got back each time was standard form, with a checkmark next to whatever work they did, and nothing indicating...

Best powder for 357 mag 158gr plated SWC target Loads

6.5 gr s Power Pistol under a 158 gr cast bullet is about as good as it gets for target work. No crimp, either. Use standard primers no matter what the data say.

Best powder for 44 mag 240gr LSWC target Loads

Two powders: 800x and IMR 4227. Love 'em both.

    Uneven forcing cone erosion

It's leading the full length of the barrel. Interesting about your 686 and lead bullets. My experience was the opposite of yours. I started with jacketed, then moved to heavy plated. There was a lot of copper fouling and so-so groups. I'll never go back to those...in any of my revolvers. I...

Performance Center vs standard production revolvers - worth the extra price?

The "uneven forcing cone wear" was my thread. This is my second PC revolver, and to me, they were both worth the extra money. Sure, it's a hassle when I have to send it back to Smith to correct their QC, but that does not detract from what I like about the PC guns. My 686 Competitor is...

    Uneven forcing cone erosion

No, it wasn't like that before. I know enough to know what to look for in revolvers. And that's something in particular that I pay close attention to with my other revolvers as well. Those ones all show typical (which is to 'uniform') wear....unlike this one. And they don't lead, either. Also...

    Uneven forcing cone erosion

Yes, a sized case will go in about 1/16 of an inch. The first couple hundred were 244 swc hard cast, the next few hundred were 200 rnfp hard cast. For powders, there was 2400, a little h110, and mostly 800x and some Power Pistol. All, except the h110 were substantially downloaded. Looks like...
