Can't Get Enough of the Eagles

The sad part of multiple births is the pattern of the dominant fledgling often pushes siblings out of the nest to perish. "Survival of the Fittest". Happened here in Oregon, as we monitored progress.

    Trio of Early Pre 27's

The short bbl is 760xx, with a June 1950 shipping to Yakima, WA. The original magna stocks are in the same great condition as the gun. As a S&W trained armorer, I needed to do nothing to the action, which was in original condition. One of the smoothest actions of my guns. An example of factory...

    Trio of Early Pre 27's

The 3 1/2 inch gun has an aftermarket red insert with a w/o rear blade. It also has a smooth narrow trigger with the early spring design. The other two only have fingernail polish applied to the front sight. And added target triggers fitted by myself. All original parts retained for resale purposes.

    Trio of Early Pre 27's

Here are my three Pre 27's that have fed my thirst for these fine firearms. From the top: 1950 3 1/2 inch, 1952 8 3/8 inch and 1954 6 1/2 inch. The original stocks have all been changed to more friendly shooting pieces. Great examples of Springfield workmanship.

This is my 1950's edition of a 3 1/2 incher. SN is exactly 2001 numbers earlier the the OP's. It has the "Speed Hammer" and the earlier style cylinder release latch. The numbered grips were replaced with more shooter friendly Altamonts. Red insert and white outline sights were added before my...

    Model 40 - Unique feature

Yes, the pin is missing, but when installing another fitted pin, the safety is not entirely released. So, I have left the safety unpinned. It is this more consistent and reliable.

    Model 40 - Unique feature

This model 40 ND is somewhat unique in that the serial number is beyond the era of the 4th sideplate screw. The sn 179xx puts it in the early 60's, but Smith discontinued the upper screw in the early 50's. It has a beautiful high polish and a somewhat unusual contour to the trigger guard. The is...

    N-frame thumb latch occasional sticks

After a thorough cleaning of all parts, the problem hitch improved, but not perfect. I now have it completely solved after cycling only the latch 50 times. This finally worked in whatever was preventing a smooth travel. Now a happy owner.
