"Custom" is a very dirty word in the world of modern manufacturing.

This is a Colt SAA thing. On the SAA and earlier percussion guns, the cylinder stop stays down and only pops up just before slipping into the notch on the cylinder. If you see a "dreaded drag line" on an old Colt, that means there's something wrong. But a Smith & Wesson ain't a single action...

Blood, bleach, or some other corrosive chemical got on the muzzle at some time. If it shoots fine, it is fine, don't worry about it. ;)

What about the gun, other than the model marking, would lead one to believe that it is anything other than a genuine model of 1955 .45? And where would the barrel and cylinder have come from? Were barrels available from S&W, while guns weren't? Forgive me if I'm asking questions out of ignorance.

So, where does the idea that this is a Model 28 come from? Is it marked on the frame inside the crane cut? I have read of the occasional S&W mis-marked with an incorrect model number. Actually, I think I sort of have one. A 10-7 that's marked 10-5 (it has the different 10-7 type gas cuts on...
