Damn foxes stealing my flip flops

We've had back yard foxes, too. They're very entertaining, but best of all, they keep the squirrel population under control. I've posted this video before, but it seems appropriate to post it again here:

    I Miss My Tree

When we built our house, we purchased our lot primarily on the basis of an enormous hickory tree growing near the street. It may have been the largest tree in our heavily treed neighborhood. It was at least 50 feet high. For 30 years it graced our front yard, but one night a huge lower limb came...

The danger of a hot wheel track

I'm not going to debate whether spanking is useful or not, but I can provide some counter-examples. None of our three kids was spanked, and they turned out just fine, giving the late Mrs. swsig and me few problems. Our son got a PhD in math, and became an actuary. While our oldest daughter...

Something you don't want to find in your laundry room (shed snakeskin)

Four years ago, I found this little fellow coiled up next to our terra-cotta statue of St. Francis, patron saint of animals. That indicated to me that this was a smart snake. I called the animal control people, who sent out a young woman who identified my visitor as a harmless rat snake. She...

    Residency Completed…1825 days.

Let me add my heartiest congratulations as well. I'm very familiar with what it takes to achieve what your daughter has, as one of my granddaughters is the same age and is following a similar career path. She received her MD in 2020 from the University of Kansas Medical School, did a three-year...

    New Forum Feature (I think...)

On my touchpad controlled MacBook Air, I can use the "command" plus "up arrow" keys to do the same thing, but now I can use a single click on the touch pad. That's cool because I rarely hit the keys I'm aiming for.:(

Sorry, but this hurts my eyes…

That would be a good reason for buying one. When someone asked why you'd buy such an ugly gun, you could say you bought it just for the halibut.

    Special picture of the day

Great photo, ENNE-FRAME. Here's another photo featuring the cheerful spirit of 4 other awesome American actors: (Yep, that's Curly with long hair and clothespin.)

    Win a Smith & Wesson Model 686 Revolver – .357 Magnum Giveaway

I have three Smith & Wesson semi-autos: A Shield 9, a Shield 45, and my trusty (16,000 rounds) EDC, an M&P 40c converted to .357 SIG, pictured below. However, I don't have a nice, shiny, Smith & Wesson revolver. Therefore, I need one.

    Thunder UP!

My son-in-law is a Thunder fan and got to attend Game 7 for free because he is a friend of the Thunder's team physician. He had a third row baseline seat alongside the Thunder's entrance tunnel. He said the crowd noise throughout the game was deafening. He asked a couple of guys seated in front...

    Ruger Standard Auto .22

Here's mine, a Standard. Like madmikeb, above, it was the first gun I ever bought. I purchased it new in 1974 for about $60. In all the years since, I have never shot a pistol with a better trigger. It's 2.5 - 3 lbs, smooth as silk, with minimal take-up and reset. I always feel sorry for Ruger...

    Happy Father's Day

For me it's also a happy Great Grandfathers Day. Earlier today, my oldest grandson told me that he and his wife just found out she is six weeks along with my first great grandchild. :D

    Small Town News Item

Yep, you weren't wrong. Denton was once Miss America Central, thanks to the coeds of North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas). In 1971, a North Texas State student, Phyllis George, became Miss America. She had a long career on CBS Sports, and eventually became the First...
