    .357 mag's with 140 gr. XTP's and H-110

H-110/296 will be a flamethrower in a 4" barrel. Give 2400 a try, same or better velocity without all the drama in 3 & 4 inch guns.

    Re-loading shot shells. Worth it?

A quick simple answer from someone who has been loading shotgun and shooting Trap, Skeet and Clay's for over 50 years. Never saved a dime, but sure got to shoot a lot more!

    45 acp heavier loads

I am told that the only difference between a .45 case that is marked +P is the stamp on the case. At any rate I have loaded non +P cases to +P pressure without any noticeable difference. Blue dot is what I use with 200 and 230 gr pills. Very impressive powder in my experience for the .45 A.C.P.

300 grain JHP out of a SW 29-10

Most will tell you that 300 grainers are to heavy for a Smith although I have fired my share with no noticeable problem in my 629-3. They are brutal and probably best left to my Winchester 92, not much game that won't be completely ventilated by them up to 60-70 yards. I much prefer a 240 LSW...

    629 which one ?

I have a 6.5 inch & 5 inch Classic with the full under lug barrel and also a 3 inch Deluxe model. All are wonderful revolvers but have there place. The 6.5 sports a 2x scope and is very accurate out to about 80 yards. Also even with heavy hunting loads it is very manageable to fire. The 5...

    Alliant 2400 in 44magnum

Blue Dot --- "more forgiving" --- this should be fun!!

Are new guns better than old ones?

It would seem that there is no definitive answer to the "old vs new" question. Owning both I can say that my 686-6 and my 60-14 have been flawless and seem to be built and finished as well as my 629-3 & 617 no dash. I cannot find tool mark 1 on the newer models, even under the grip where there...

How does the 1911 style differ from other SW semi's

My 4506 is a tank, shoots anything I feed it without a hitch. Not the greatest trigger but I am used to it and I can hit what I am shooting at. My S&W E-series is one eye pleasing pistol. It feels like pistol should in my hand with a wonderful trigger. I can hold half dollar size groups...

    4506 no dash help

The 4506 has a reputation for exceptional reliability and will feed almost anything that you can stuff into a mag however, its trigger has never been one of its bright points. You may have a broken trigger play spring - it is not uncommon. Search for this and you will find lots of info.

    First squib

Thanks for the post shil - it reminds the many experienced members here including myself that mistakes happen - if it don't go bang or sounds or feels wrong - stop and find out why!

    .40 S&W loads

I have found the slower powders like longshot - AA #7 - Bluedot seem to have the most flash - especially when fired in shorter barrels. Have never used Power Pistol but it is a little slower than AA #5 - Unique - Universal - all of which work very well in the .40 and from what I have found the...

    4506 vs M&P 45FS

Grip size The 645's do have a thinner grip - very much like a 1911 - the 4506 grip is a one piece somewhat curved in the backstrap grip. I have seen many 4506 with Hogue replacement grips (which I use) that will make the grip size much thicker. If you shoot your M&P with the large inserts I...

    4506 vs M&P 45FS

I have a 4506-1 and a M&P 45C and a M&P 40 FS - the only thing that appears to be close in size is the slide width on the 45C. The 4506 is an M&P on steroids - heavy & much thicker in the grip area, and all steel with no MIM parts. I prefer the trigger on the M&P however, the single action on...

4506 Decocking to safe while firing ? Help **

My 4506 did this and the fix was replacing the recoil spring. I suspect that you have a new one if all the springs were replaced, this can also happen if the wrong spring is installed for the safety position plunger, sometimes the spring that retains the safety lever is switched with the...

    7MM Remingto Mag.

    RL 22 is what I use, 64.3gr and a 164 Hornady -- IMR4831 has worked well too.
