I've had a 647PC on order for over a year and the factory is telling me not to hold my breath. I ordered a 686P with a 3" barrel 4 months ago and my gun shop got one in 2 weeks. It might not be that hard for your shop to find one.
I carry nothing but revolvers. I carry a 637 Chief's Special, 315 Night Guard, and a 686 Plus. My bread-and-butter EDC is the 315, but carry the J and L frames infrequently.
I bought this 686 new and put this picture up on the forum earlier because of the weird divot on the cylinder. Nobody recognized it ( I sure didn't) so I sent it back.
It came back without work. The paperwork said that the "mark on the cylinder is part of machining process, all new cylinders...

It's a Performance Center Stealth Hunter with Ahrends stocks. It's compensated. That, with the 7 1/2" full lug barrel makes it a real sweet heart to shoot. I have 9 S&W revolvers and this is my favorite gun to shoot.
