I had my inclinations but wanted to be sure. Out of the hundreds of pictures I've seen I'd never seen a mark like that.
Wait, WHAT? You mean yours doesn't have that too?:D
I've had this for well over a year now. At the time, no lock 642's were somewhat of a rarity around my area so when I found this one at a great price I didn't check it over as best I could. It wasn't till a few days after I had purchased it that I noticed this strange mark under the crane...
Thanks again Stainz for all the info. He ain't kiddn' about the comfort these grips provide. They also almost force a high hold grip, which is great for fast shooting!
Here's a 642 with them on.
Thanks Decker, that's all I needed to hear.
I contacted S&W just to get some info, but every time they give me the catch all "send it in, we need to look at it", which I really don't want to have to do, not for a small part on the inside of the frame.
Sorry guys, I know this one has been beaten to death, but I just need some clarification.
Like an idiot, I used a lead remover cloth on my 642 around the forcing cone and low and behold, removed the finish in that area. Apparently I have OCD when it comes to guns and couldn't leave that spot...

Anyone have any experience with Federal Auto-Match?
Googling M&P15-22 and Fed Auto-Match brings up quite a few reports of OOB incidents, something I'd like to avoid if at all possible.
Last Time!
OK, I swear to GOD this is my last post on the matter. I rigged up a crappy $70 camera and got a video of the play in action.

Note that this gun is DAO, so to get to full lockup I need to dry fire.
Again I'd like to thank everyone for their responses and look...
To be clear, the place I brought my pistol to have it checked over is actually a Gander Mountain that works as a warranty center for S&W; although the gunsmiths there did seem extremely knowledgeable.
What's kinda weird about my gun is that while lockup and rest exhibit similar levels of...
A couple other bits of info I should have included.
Mine is a 64-6, so MIM parts but no IL. It's been rendered DAO.
I HAVE fired some 150 rounds or so without any lead spitting or any buildup or noticeable wear on the forcing cone.
Howdy! New S&W owner here who is a little confused.
Just recently I purchased a Model 64 trade in from J&G Sales. Not to long ago I inherited my grandfathers pre Model 10 from his time on the force and found myself completely smitten for K frames, and while I was (am) in love I didn't want to...
