Oh wow, we have very close serial numbers - mine is also EKZ829x!
I think you're right about the 1999 date. Not only are our serial numbers extremely close, but also, mine has Hogue grips, and the date of manufacture molded inside the grips is 1999.
I've wanted a 3rd Gen S&W ever since they were new.
The other day, I was in my local gun store and found a 4046 with a Brinks logo on it. It came with three 10 round magazines and Safariland holster, which I expect was issued with it.
The price was pretty good, so I snapped it up. I'm very...
I'm trying to find out some information on the history of the Centennial Airweight/Model 42.
The original grips on the Centennial Airweight were smooth wood, and the thumbpiece was a wedge-shaped flat type.
At some point, these were changed to the Magna grips with the checkered panels, and...
So using .40 magazines to get around the restrictions was so common that S&W designed their .40 magazines to not work in their 9mm pistols?
I find it fascinating how laws sometimes affect the mechanical design of guns. I'm glad the AWB has been consigned to history now, but it left some...
Thanks for the info. Still toying with the idea of buying a 9mm barrel anyway. That guy in the video says it works fine with the .40 magazines, so I might risk the $45 for a 9mm barrel.
That other thread you linked to is interesting - That was quite a clever workaround for the 10 round limit...
I found this video of a guy using a SW9VE barrel in his SW40VE:
9mm factory barrel in a SW40VE! it works! - YouTube
He's using his .40 magazine, and claims it is reliable.
I tried putting 9mm in my .40 mag, and, while they do seem to fit ok, they sit up at more of an angle than .40 rounds...
You can use a SW9VE barrel in the SW40VE and it will work. Apparently the .40 mags also work fine with 9mm too. I tried some in mine, and it seemed ok, but I'm not 100% sold on the idea.
I'm trying to find out if the SW9VE mags will work in the SW40VE. If they do, I'm definitely going to buy a...
