I was having similar thoughts regarding gun manufacturers - what happens to sales next year and the year after if everyone stocks up this year? The IT spending binge of the late 90s, driven by more imagined than real Y2K fears, lead to a downturn that sector still hasn't recovered from.
Both Gander and Cabela's had Sigmas less the lasersite on sale a month or so ago for $349. Considering almost all the other gun stores in my area sell Sigmas for $399, that's not a bad price.
I've noticed that the shelves are less bare these days, so maybe we'll see more discounts and sales...
