I picked up this Brazillian Contract 1917 today. Tight, decent condition, good bore, excellent trigger. Missing the lanyard ring. Bought as a shooter. Serial # 198447
I'd like to know anything you folks have to tell me!
I recently made a set of J-frame grips for someone, and fitted them to my 1950's vintage Airweight Chief's Special (Model 37.)
When she tried to fit them on her Model 442 there was about a 1mm gap where the grips met. I don't have a 442, but I measured a 640-2, and the widest part of the grip...
Possible, I've had this apart a lot since I got it, and wasn't much worried while it was non-functional. I just wanted to keep the pieces in the right places. Now that it's working everything is in it's proper place.
No, this came with aftermarket grips. When I got it the trigger was smooth, with a squared-off tip and surprisingly sharp edges; I suspected the original owner had removed the serrations because stock triggers aren't sharp-edged as this one, at least not as far as I've seen.
Initially I thought...
Dang it, I can't believe I typed K-frame; I know better. I corrected the original post. Thank you. '55 is close enough. Yeah. I was thinking Metalife or GunCote.
Picked up a box-O-gun on the cheap, a fully stripped J-frame that had be coated and never reassembled. I reassembled it and noticed it said 'airweight' on the barrel. I stuck a magnet to it and thought, 'huh. Must be a replacement barrel.'
Turns out I'm a dufus (like you're surprised.) The...
Someone took a nice older J-frame, stripped it and had it coated, then never reassembled it. i was able to pick it up for a very, very good price because it was 'ruined' by having a very nice, professional refinish. My interest in the gun is practical, so I care not one bit about the...
Looking for any information I can find on a nice modified Hand-Ejector I picked up recently. The gun originally had a 5" barrel and is square-butt style.
Serial Number S879818. There is a strain-screw on the front of the grip-frame. It is a 5-screw frame. It has fixed sights and is chambered...
Kind of an odd question, but have hand-ejector/K-frame grip frames changed over the years? I mean, they all look very similar, but I've never had the opportunity to compare them side by side.
I know some of the older ones must be pretty similar; grips for J-frames seem to fit their .38...
Yes. For this one I shortened some .44 magnum brass. I loaded some 200gr LRNFPs over 4.5gr. of Unique, which gives an average of 626 fps. This is quite mild compared to the original loads, but has enough pop to make for a satisfying shooting experience. I'm going to try some Trail Boss loads...
I find the short-barrel SH guns quite charming, and fun to shoot as well. But as to why you would be seeing more 2nd Models I have no clue; I always seem to run across 4th models.
