Hi,
I'm downsizing... Up for sale are 3 WWII P38 pistols. No import marks, with period correct magazines . Original finish, all matching SNs. These are near the end of the war production, an instant collection, these are in really nice original condition with beautiful patinas.
Please PM with...
I saw that on eBay and got curious. Turned out some folks on the Colt forum found out it was a small run from Pachmayr for trade shows only and not for retail. The purpose was to show the metal inserts used in those grips. I think I now cornered the market on these translucent grips
Very interesting discussion. Here is a few numbers from the cylinders from my pre 28 and HD.
HD:
front face to back face 1.57", front face to ratchet 1.68", front face to a back of a shell 1.62" (the cylinder for 38 spl was never recessed)
Pre 28:
front face to back face 1.62", front face to...
With too much time on my hands, I took out my pre 28 and tried to swap the cylinder with the HD. No bueno, they do not interchange, fun experiment though. This may be one of the reasons why there are matching SNs on the cylinder, frame and barrel. I guess, if someone want to make the conversion...
So beside reaming out the chamber, installing a 357 cylinder is the other option it appears. Are there other mods, fittings required to safely shoot .357 out of the HD? Barrel and forcing cones should be left alone i suspect.
Thanks
Thanks, this has to be the explanation. My HD is a 5 screws with matching numbers even on the stocks. I'm was under the impression that it is unaltered until today. I looked at the frame to see if there is any stamping indications of a reworked but none found. The gun went back to S&W for a...
The HD is period correct and unaltered. Interesting take on the public perception and policy.
Not sure what you mean with the case length, isn't it less accurate with a short case since there is a longer bullet jump?
Thanks
Happy new year all.
Something interesting came up during my time off from work for the holidays. Someone asked me if the cylinder for my 38 spl HD is shorter than the regular 357 in a 27 or 28. It turns out the cylinders are all the same between the 27, 28 and HD. I have MR73 in 38 special...
Interesting point on the rifling. In my case it does not matter I don’t think since I have a wad. The CCI commercial snake round may be an issue with the pistol barrel. Besides , the beauty of the shotshell is you don’t need to hit it dead center, just get the edge and you’re GTG.
The station 8 targets are very fast. I think my success rate is due the incoming station 7. Much more time and the target comes to you not away from you. The feeling of breaking the moving clay with a pistol is very satisfying.
