Newer smiths - Better In Some Ways?

For what it's worth, I found a nice pre-owned Ladysmith .38 at Bass Pro, good blueing, and as nice a set of grips that I've seen in a while. The price was sure tempting! Unfortunately, it had that blankety-blank hole in the frame and I passed it by. I'll stay with my elderly Model 37 as a pocket...

    S&W Model 469, year made?

I sent an e-mail to S&W customer service a few years back on my 469 TAAXXXX and got a quick, polite response: 1986.

    potential 3913 purchase

A spurred hammer makes a lot of sense to me. I had one on my 908 that went to a favorite nephew when I had a health emergency. I wish I had one on my 469; having one installed isn't in the cards, though, not considering the time it would be at the gunsmith's and the cost, at least not at my age

I enjoy my S&W 3rd Gens, but Beretta takes top prize

I love those wooden grips! I had both a 951 and it's Helwan clone. The design fit my hand perfectly and it was a joy tucked over the right hip. Although lots of people will disagree about the crossbolt safety, I like it. I even had a Model 70, the old style, with the same safety. It was very...

    Another Inexpensive .22 Revolver

If the Rossi works for you, what's not to like? .22 revolvers are sweet. I'm currently tempted by a Charter Arms .22 I saw on line last weekend.

I enjoy my S&W 3rd Gens, but Beretta takes top prize

If I didn't have plenty of spare 6906 mags, I'd lean heavily towards a Beretta 92 as a house gun and that's simply because parts are readily available if the Beretta goes down. The Smiths are getting harder and harder to supply; yes, they rarely break, but the availability of magazines are an issue.

    S&W Walther?

Thanks for the input. I had missed the news about the recall and will definitely check. I'm getting recoil sensitive and I'll definitely have to shoot it before plunking down the cash. I used to have a chewed up and spit out .32 PPK and it was a pleasure to shoot.

    S&W Walther?

An acquaintance has a Walther PPK/S I think from the Holton plant. It has the box, paperwork, etc. I haven't looked at it yet, so can't comment on the condition. He's asking a firm $750. Any comments? I'm getting away from 9mm carry and it would be a carry piece.

    Model 38 question

I had an old nickel plated Model 49 that I carried with wadcutters; I handloaded hollow based wadcutters backwards. I don't know if that mattered at all, but those cartridges sure looked wicked. They were backed up by two reloads of standard pressure hollow points. As already stated, the...

6906 on the range with my fellow geezers

As a fellow old geezer - is that redundant? are there young geezers? - I have to admit that the 6906 is about as good as it gets. I tried, really tried, to like the Glock 26. Sorry, no can do.

    Is a 3913 a good gun?

I carried daily (as a civilian and school teacher) a 908, which is the value line version of the 3913. Different sights, a flat top instead of a machined and curved slide, and some plastic parts. The gun never disappointed me. Then I had a health scare and disposed of the 908, 469, and 6906 to...

Walther PPK 32 acp, 2024 model.

I'm leaning towards a used Manurhin .32 PP for about $600. From what I've read, quality is exceptional and that Walther actually sold them under their own banner after WWII.

    I-Frame .32 S&W Long

I went back to the shop this morning and the .32 was still here. Through a comedy of errors, I wasn't able to take it home. It's going to be a couple of more weeks before I can get it, if I do. The bloom is considerably off the rose. It's not the gun; it's more the attitude of the shop people. I...

    I-Frame .32 S&W Long

The revolver was still there as of this morning; I'm holding off, though, for two reasons. First, my father, ever wise, sometimes smart, once said (that's all it took) that a two week wait is seldom wasted. As Charlie Chan said, "Patience are a lovely virtue." Second, Oct. 3rd is my birthday...

    I wanted a 5906...

I also use a wooden tee to tamp down Borkum Riff in a pipe.
