I think you'd be fine carrying both to the range, but you might want to look into it more.. Having them both in your house at the same time, if it's wrong to take them to the range at the same time, is just as wrong..

Yeh, I'd still like to "build one" as I like to tinker, but I think my first (few LOL) will be assembled rather than built..

I'm kinda in the same boat, in that I've been eyeing a 5.56 build.. It looks like, depending on how you want to go with it, it's about as cheap to buy completed sections - uppers/lowers.. You'll spend ~$150 in tools to build one. If you think you might build more, you can spread that cost out...

I was reading a review of it somewhere, it seems it's another "airsoft shell." $600 would put you into bargain AR15 land or well into AK land..

The A model is 100% swappable.. I'll be running it on a DSArm's Spartan lower.. ;)
