    Powder for 45 ACP GDHP

Per Hodgdon website, you can load up to 8.2grs HS-6 but it still takes a backseat to the velocities you can get with Accurate AA5. Using a 1911 test firearm, Speer 230 Gold Dots, 8.7grs AA5 gets you 929'ps at OAL 1.265. I'll tell ya this, with a 45 ACP, you don't need top velocities. You need...

    New to Reloading and Confused...

Welcome to the world of reloading. I think one issue that most beginners don't understand is that the reloading manuals are a GUIDE, not an absolute. No two guns are alike and what is hot in your gun maybe too much or not hot at all in mine. Rifles can commonly vary in velocity up to 200'ps with...

Have you used Federal Hi-Shok and Hydra Shok Ammo

I'd suggest reading the linked report. It's specifically for 9mm Luger only. You can go to their website and look at most all of the different pistol chamberings and bullet performance specs. http://www.brassfetcher.com/9x19mm%20Luger/9x19mm%20Luger%20Bone%20Test.pdf Per their summary, the...

    Standard deviation question

Your first assume that your chronograph is 100%, is wrong. Most run around 95% accuracy with the real good ones at 99%. And all are subject to how they are set up to be that accurate. Weather conditions such as clouds or sunny, temperature, etc all effect a chronograph. Standard deviation is...

    resizing cartridges already loaded

While not unsafe, I would expect accuracy to suffer some on those rounds. You have now effectually resized the bullet diameter smaller as well. Obviously not frangible bullets or you'd be seeing the bullets break in half at the end of the brass.

    Short Barrel ballistics tables

I think you might be on the wrong trail here. No two guns will shoot the same load and get the same velocities. They all are going to be in the general area but may be as much as 100'ps difference for pistols. If your looking for exact information, you'll need to generate it per each individual...

    NIB 5906

I called the guy I got it from. He says it's unfired, new in the box, unfiddled with. The guns come to the State set up for their 147 gr ammo which he said is HOT. He emphasized hot several times. He's not aware of the spring rate but the guns are setup by Smith for this specific use. I looked...

    NIB 5906

Well, I got out my long forgotten recoil spring gauge, it only goes to 20lbs. The spring bottomed it out and hadn't compressed much. Meaning it's a lot more than 20 lbs. The gun was purchased from a State Commissioner that had the pistol for decades according to him. At the time he bought 4 of...

    NIB 5906

I bought a NIB 5906 that I have a few questions about. I've never owned a Smith semi auto and frankly know nothing about one. I've shot competition with the Colts, Wilson, and have numerous other brands of pistols but this Smith has me wondering. The slide spring is extremely heavy. The wife...
