Okay you gun specialists, let's talk .38's

I look forward to putting that to the test SO! And as the image I first posted shows, I'm obviously digging those grooves, as well. :D Cajun, don't get me started on the wood my man. You are going to seriously distract me!! Coco Bolo . . . Rosewood . . . "Danger Will Robinson! Danger!"...

Scooter, that post rocks man. It's so good I've printed it out. And I completely agree with you — I'm strongly leaning toward the 686+, not least of which precisely because of it's flexibility in the handgrip department. This is important. **** it's where everything is felt. I wish it held...

Probably. But as I just said, it doesn't signify because on a practical level you can only buy what's available. And no, 3" will be it for me. I'm not going to be buying more than one gun if I can help it. I tried a 3" Ruger that was quite nice . . . until it jammed.

    Favorite Books From Your Childhood?

It's odd. I must be the only person who just loathes Mark Twain. I can't explain it. I like the man, I like the genre he wrote in. But his style just grates on me for some reason. Josef Conrad, there's another (Heart of Darkness). And another, more contemporary — Ruth Rendell, the mystery...

    Favorite Books From Your Childhood?

Oh this thread was made for me! I have wall-to-wall books and am a wanna-be SciFi writer. I particularly collect Illustrated Classics, but I'm a fan of illustration generally — especially alumni of the N.C. Wyeth Brandywine School. I live with depression, and I don't mind telling you that...

Howdy guys . . . and BillCa thank you for sharing those pics and details. goldenbb I presume it's permissible to be a Beginner even at my late age? Then please allow me to ask questions, however stupid they may sound to you. I find most antique dueling pistols aesthetically beautiful to...

Alright this is important. Is there some identifying gun lingo that distinguishes a "halfway" from a "full way" so's to speak? or is this a case where any one frame simply comes in two flavors and you have to be model-specific to know what you're looking at?

. . . hmmm. I just looked at this closer and I have to confess it may be the shadows that make this appear rounder than it is (also the optical illusion of the grain) ? But yes, the tip is the thing. And I bow to your experience. EDIT: I've attached a marked-up example (from an...

When I say "Round" I mean ROUND lol cajun, and if you look up you'll see me with my Bombay Saphhire® G&T talking, talking, and (oh did I forget?) talking. The immortal phrase You Look Like I Need a Drink comes to mind. Thank you for the welcome and back at ya cajun. :D Now, look men, we're...

Hey mods thanks for moving the thread (sorry bout that). I do take your point about comfort Smith. I'll certainly find out when I get out there. My thinking was that if I were in bed and an intruder came into the house — being already at a disadvantage because I'm sleep addled, I can too...

Damn, I meant for this to go into the regular Revolvers thread, oh well. Perhaps a mod can move it. Okay, I totally agree with the weight of the gun. I do not want a lightweight gun. Totally agree. It's like with my gigantic chainsaw, sometimes big is massively better. So yes, a heavy gun...

Okay you gun specialists, let's talk .38's

This will be my first gun, and as I said in the intro forum, I'm getting it for home protection. The neighbors have been burgled twice and that's enough for me. Some of these questions are going to be ridiculously entry level but I want to get a jump on understanding the terms before my first...

Howdy, time to get my first revolver . . .

Hey all, single, no children, not dating, couple of cats, bookish, quiet, old (50's) . . . and let's just say I live in a neighborhood that's becoming scary there are so many breakins. This will be my first gun and I've got classes lined up just to show you how seriously I take the training...
