Model 29 in Early Clamshell Case

Bill, on that early clamshell case, there seems to be an indentation just to the right of the mop. Was there supposed to be an item there? I have a couple of the clamshell cases and they don't have that indent.

How Many '1988 Special' Model 66-3 Were Made?

OP here. I appreciate those replies here, but I am not really looking at numbers for -2's or -4's or for those made in years other than 1988. The S&W Catalog, page 322, mentions a '1988 Special' and that is what I am curious about. I do have a request for a letter in, but I see that the...

Modifications of my (new to me) Model 36 -

I have a model 36 no-dash that was modified when I bought it. I am told that the trigger probably came from a model 60 target model. I hope the pictures show this clearly. I absolutely love this mod, even though the new trigger is stainless and the rest of the gun is blue.

Thank you for that information, Bill. Good to know.

    Progress on Digitizing

Thank you, Bill, for that information on my 1976 M25-2. I wonder if the invoice would show if the handgun was shipped with a wooden presentation case.

California Gun Specialties Inc. Lindsay CA

I was asking if anyone knew of this business, and exactly what they did. I searched, and could not find anything about them.

    Progress on Digitizing

In the past few years, I have seen progress on digitizing the S&W records up to certain years. I believe this info was used a lot in the making of Historical Foundation letters, or maybe what is now seen as a 'deep dive' into the past of certain guns. I wonder how far they are along now, as I...

    25-2 "Presentation Grips"?.

I have posted this before, so I will show the link to that post. It includes a picture of the letter stating that it was shipped with smooth stocks. https://smith-wessonforum.com/threads/happy-anniversary-model-1955.738867/#post-142197584

    A Two-Tone Model 29-2

That's a beautiful Pinto, Bill. Did it come that way when brand new, or did it go back to the factory to make it into a Pinto? Another question here. I have seen pictures of Pintos that have the blue frames and have nickel screws on the sideplate. I wonder if that is something that the...

    Finally Got Me a 5" Model 27

Here's my 5" nickel 27-2. I understand that the 5" wooden presentation cases are a little hard to find. Also has the silver cardboard box.

How Many '1988 Special' Model 66-3 Were Made?

While looking through the new 5th edition of the Standard Catalog, I see a mention of a 3" model 66-3 that they refer to as a 1988 Special, if I am reading that correctly. I have this one pictured here with the box and tools that I bought used several years ago to complete my Model 66...

Post war Outdoorsman - single line Made In USA

Jeff - I also have a 38/44 O.D. that was shipped in January 1947. The serial number is S70421, which is way different than yours. It is interesting that shipping dates and serial numbers vary all over the place in this time frame.

    Got My Model 53 Letter

OK - Here are some pictures. I wonder if any members out there have a factory letter that says their M53 was shipped with the extra cylinder.

    Got My Model 53 Letter

I hope I am in the right category here, As my Model 53 "Jet" is a 4-screw, but was shipped in January 1962 according to the S&W letter. The reason I sent for a letter is because I was curious if my handgun was one of those shipped with the optional 22LR cylinder. Since there was no mention in...
