    686-4 6" factory ported?

Just a personal observation, but, that doesn't look like a factory port job to me. Bob

    BACK TO MY REVOLVERS.......

Revolvers and lever action rifles. Yep, that pretty much sums it up for me. :) Bob

Do you carry "+1" in your semi-auto?

Absolutely!! A semi auto is useless until there is a round in the chamber and in a critical situation racking one in takes way too long, not to mention the noise it makes. Bob

    S&W 69 .44 Magnum.

She's not the prettiest girl at the prom. But, she can dance all night and come back for more. Best woods gun I've ever owned. Bob

Who to send 686 to for an action job?

From my experience, I would wait until you have put about 500 rounds through it and then decide if you need to do an action job on it at all. Bob

This is why one should practice shooting at distance

And that's a born again, card carrying fact. Plus, most are over before you even have time to sight in a further distance. Bob

    How Far?

That, Sir, is a really BIG no no. If that gun crosses a state line it has to go through a FLL in the state where it is purchased. Bob

    6" 686

I have a 4" 686 no Dash without the M and have never had even the slightest of issues with it. I also have a 6" -4 that I dearly love. IMHO, if it's in decent condition at that price you can't go wrong. Bob

    My Dad's 686

Sir, what you have there is a VERY nice piece. I have one of its siblings and would not part with it for any amount. Bob

    Re-Finish Recommendations

IMHO, other then the S&W factory, Ford's is the only place to send it. A bit pricey but they do incredible work. Also, IMHO, I'd go with a satin hard chrome finish. Model 29's usually turn out to be work horses and that finish will stand up to almost anything. Bob
