    Cylinder won't clean

I asked Brownel's tech guys about this. Specifically I was asking which reamer to get to clean out the carbon, as that was noted in one of the gun smithing books I read. I'd come by a couple of 357 revolvers that were pretty loaded up. Brownells said no need for the reamer, just wind a bit of...

    What Do I Need?

Good idea Jeff....then I'd have the 2x4 handy to hit myself in the head for not just buying a dillon 650 (my dream) to begin with. :-) The advice on the single stages was from an old timer that felt it would be better to pay attention to every step, but after nearly 8,000 rounds, I'm ready to...

New 625 with to light trigger weight

OK - just for a data point, I recently bought a 625 JM. Trigger pull out of the box was over 14lbs...could not measure with a lyman trigger scale. I dry fired literally 1,000+ times (blister), Shot 400 rounds, opened it up, stoned the rebound block and polished the hammer boss on the site plate...

Loading question on 170 gr Moly LRN in 38spl

Thanks for the advice AzShooter, on pressures as well as some extra poop for out-of-state chrony . It appears to me that all load data from cast bullets show higher MV than I get from Moly regardless of which load book. I was told at one point that the Moly allows the bullet to move easier, so...

    What Do I Need?

I was advise to use single stage presses, so lined up 4 cheap Lee presses so I can use one for decap/primer. and the other three for Powder Measure, Bullet Seating and "factory" crimp. I use Lee dies and have adapted a Dillon Powder measure which works very well when the internals are polished...

So here is what I came up with so far. Bullets are 170gr Moly from Bear Creek. No rings, completly smooth. All cases are R&P 38sp with Federal 100 primers. All are seated a tad high at OAL 1.533 to more or less equal the seating depth of the 158 gr LRN. Medium crimp (when I pull a bullet out of...

I have a friend that shoots a lot of long guns competitively that won't use Moly...say's he has had experiance where "rings" have formeds in the barrel. I only know that a lot of the ICORE shooters really like it, and I have had no issues in S&W revolvers or Kimber autos.

Thanks cp1969. Actually not too worried about lack of grooves. I shoot a LRN with a hollow base (no grooves) and works fine in 1917 & 625 revolvers. The Bear Creek rounds are 12-13 hardness so a medium crimp bites into the lead round quite well. No lube requirements obviously as these come Moly...

Bear Creek was out of 158 LRN so I brought home a couple of boxes of 170 LRN. Heard they were the new rage at ICORE so why not. I need to load up a batch for my wife (Model 627 PC 5") and no time to Chrony for now. Any suggestions? I have BE, Unique, Herco, 231, 2400, PP etc. These are .358 x...

    Resurrected 1917 45

I recently bought a 1917 Brazilian Contract to shoot ICORE. The finish is gone as well, and a few dents & dings. Where did you send this 1917 to be reblued. It is awsome. I need a holster. We have Blade-Techs for all our autos and one 627, but willing to try something else. I gather that the...

Why the .45 ACP in a revolver?

Wow...great info! I just bought a 1917 Brazilian Contract to shoot ICORE. Should show up to CA dealer Friday than 10 day purgatory. I need a holster. We have Blade-Techs for all our autos and one 627, but willing to try something else (Cust svc ??). I gather from the string that the 1917 is an N...

    Bring back the 627

Just to close this out - soon after last post, sent the 627 PC back to S&W and they turned it around in a week. At least 1,000 38sp and several hundred mags since and zero problems.

Action Holster for 627 Performance Center 5"

Thanks for the ideas / experiance Thanks Guys - this is very helpful. At my age I'm not worried about tenths, just want to be able to get the thing out without flossing myself :-)

Action Holster for 627 Performance Center 5"

S&W is offering a leather holster for the 627 PC 5" barrel, as is Blade-Tech. Looking to mix up the Action Shooting with an 8-shooter rather than the usual autos. Anybody have any experience or thoughts on the best way to go to drag this out of a holster in a hurry? Thanks!
