A funny thing happened on my way...

Model 36 did that long ago. Actually found the cap but it happened again. Locktite blue solved the problem.

    Model 10's and +P - what's the deal ?

Frequently carry small J frame mdl 36 with "for sale to law enforcement only" +P 110 gr.. Almost never practice with this ammo, only for carry as it is unpleasant to shoot and unnecessary against the most vicious paper target. Over time frequent use of +P in little Chief Special undoubtedly...

    NOS Model 10

Growing up in the 50s and 60s the S&W model 10 was the standard police weapon. Every cop I saw as a kid carried one. Just like every kid today thinks of a Glock as standard. There are many well worn 10s out there as a result. However there are also nice NIB 50 year old 10s that have been in...

    Storing in boxes

I buy boxes from Protecta-gun, store my pistols in their boxes. They sell wax protective paper too. I store my older boxes apart and take good care of both. The original serial numbered boxes are valuable to collectors.

    NOS Model 10

About 15 years ago I bought a NOS model 10 from a dealer in Maine via Gunbroker. He asked how many do you want? Turns out he bought all he could from Smith back in the 1960s. Riots in prisons had prison guards arming themselves. He said he had about 50 still, long forgotten, blue and nickel...

    34-1 Value ?

I have a 34 4 inch, purchased new in 1976. It has paperwork, tools, original reinforced box even wax paper. Although I have fired it thousands of times I would rate it 95+%. I baby my guns. It was sent back to S&W in the early 80s to service springs, cylinder stop etc. The gunsmith at S&W...

    HELP!! Model 30-1 at LGS

When teaching handgun skills to those new to firearms I start them out firing the model 34 .22 Kit Gun. Next the 31 .32 Long 3" barrel. When they have learned that recoil is nothing to fear they shoot a 3" model 36 .38 cal wadcutter and .38 158 gr. standard load. The little J frames are great...

    Model 36, stainless steel ?

If it is marked 36 this is the answer. All stainless models start with model number 6

    Nylon 66?

Not only several web sites but forums devoted to Nylon Rem .22s. They are decent shooters. I have owned several. Don't lose parts as they are hard to find. In fact avoid disassembly; no need to clean or lube. There are hard core collectors out there. Some late models were made in South...

Need advice on an old 36-1

Send it back to S&W. Sent my 1976 34 Kit Gun to them for similar service. They sent me back the replaced worn parts and my .22 good as new. Similar J frame. I'm sure they are more than familiar with what is needed.

    Ruger Sp101 - The Other J Frame

One thing more. In addition to the heavy trigger pull (before spring replacement) the SP 101 is rather large for concealed carry. A J frame Smith is simply smaller and lighter and easier to conceal.

    Ruger Sp101 - The Other J Frame

The SP101 trigger pulls are heavy...very heavy. New spring sets are available from Wolff. Try out the spring for optimal control while reliably firing your favorite round primer. Not complicated. I'm all thumbs and replaced the two springs in twenty minutes. Makes all the difference in the...

Help with unique markings on M18-3

Model52guy is right on track. All German imports were by law proofed like yours which sort of makes them unusual if not rare. Simpson Ltd. specializes in Lugers but currently lists Smiths with the German nitro proofs on their vast web site. One seems identical to yours. You got a good one...
