This has been a very useful and informative thread. I like .357 carbine/revolver combinations a lot. We own a farm in the very rural south where these firearms are pretty handy. I have a Ruger M77/357 and a Marlin 1894. These make great deer rifles on the farm. I may have to pickup a Rossi in .357.
I have two 649 "no dashes". It took almost 10 years to find them. IMHO opinion, the 649 is the best pocket pistol ever designed. $600 would not even temp me to sell one of mine. If you really want one, I would be getting while the getting was good.
Wonderful thread. I really enjoyed it. I need to clarify one point. I was born and have lived in the deep south for 72 years and remain grateful for that to this day. Amazingly I despise sweet tea! I do like collard greens after the first frost.
On another subject, I hear and read "ya'll" all...
We live on a farm in rural SC. When there's a major outage like hurricane Helene or just a series of big thunder storms, we will be one of the last to get power back to normal. We have learned to prepare for this as we get about two such events a year. Some last over a week. Decent sized...
For the record most of my handguns are revolvers and I really like leather holsters. I am not a Glock fan boy and don't hang out on the Glock forum or try the latest Glock accessory. I am 71 and bought a number of those wonderful Colt 1911s from the 1970s. Half of these pistols needed gun...
Serious thunder storms are sort of normal here. I put a Square D surge protector on the outside service panel board. I also put surge protectors on all sensitive stuff including the two heat pumps.
I live in rural S.C. but check the news for the city about two hours away. It's amazing how much violence has increased there in the last five years. Some guy mowing his grass was attacked and killed by four people earlier this week. It seems someone gets shot every night. I used to pack my...
I am 72 and have been buying guns since the mid 1970s. Some of the S&Ws I purchased back then were just fine and a few were really bad. .22 Kit Gun that was unusable and had a terrible blue finish. Model 27 that had the worst side plate fit I have ever seen. Oh and there were some Colts and...
I am retired but still fly about four or five times a year. I dread air travel. The food is terrible, the seats are cramped and I arrive at my destination without my model 649. Once I get where I am going, I generally have a decent time but miss the farm. I did enjoy flying on Icelandic Air as...
I live on a 200 acre timber tract in the very rural south. The driveway is pretty long. I get NO drop in company and have had repair people call at the head of the driveway and ask if it was really okay to drive in. I don't miss the city at all.
