I have a 686-6 (new in ~2013) with a 6" barrel. If I wanted a new 4" barrel put on (I don't want it cut down) is that something SW would do as custom work? If not, can I get a new 4" that a qualified gunsmith could do the work? Thanks!

How much does the compensated barrel help on .38 Special loads? Every youtube I watch indicates the comp really helps magnums but no real comments on standard .38 Special loads.

Every time I think about selling a gun, I decide not too. I don't need the money at this point. So even if I don't shoot it much, what do I achieve by selling it now? Eventually I'll have to sell 'em all but won't before I have to. I'd say keep 'em all as long as you can.

I own a nice Model 18-2 4" (see pix) with a birth year of 1964. My LGS has a nice Model 17 4" (I think -3). Looking the 17 over, it is hard to see much difference other than my 18 is P&R. What is there a basic difference between these two models? Thanks!
