Default Turning into a S&W Revolver guy (Pictures!)

So I've been around guns all my life; But only in the last few years have I really started to gather a "couple" for my own collection. I'm into everything really... My collection or arsenal or whatever you want to call it ranges from a beat up old Mosin Nagant to a Custom AR-15 that I built around March, and from a Glock 23 to a 1911.... and lots of variations in-between.

In February I was going through a rough spot... Think "Old Country song" and you'll get the picture Anyway I needed a pick-me-up.... so I decided I would treat myself to my dream gun.

Now being raised watching those darned Dirty Harry movies.... my dream gun has always been a Smith 29. I scrounged all over town and found through a friend of a friend a man who bought a 29-2 back in the 70's and never fired it... just kept it in his closet for protection or some such. He agreed to sell it to me for $700

(The turn ring you see on the cylinder is 100% my fault... and I'm proud of it)

Then a month or two ago I decided that feeding the .44 for all of my revolver needs was too expensive for me. So I decided a .357 was in order... Enter Smith 19-6 for $450

29 & 19

And then yesterday while I was working the gunshow I stumbled on this here 66-2 in an older gentleman's case for $350

I had to do the polishing on it to make it look the way it does now. I wouldn't have but this one had lots of scratches and some nicks on it.

last year I had 0 Smiths..... now I have 3! I do believe I have developed some disease or something

Fink.

BeatnikFink, welcome from North Carolina. Wish I could find such good looking guns for such a good price.

Well, you've been infected with the S&W bug and there is no cure for the disease. I bought my first one back in the middle '60s and have been adding more to my collection every year since. I consider the "golden age" of S&Ws to be 1946 to 1995. These are not as expensive to own as the older guns, and the craftsmanship is still there, for the most part. The post-1995 guns don't do it for me. Too much sacrifice of quality in the interest of cheap production, which didn't translate into lower prices. Values on good Smiths continue to escalate year by year, and they are like money in the bank if in great condition.

Yeah, I have my favorites. I'll post a few of them for you here. Welcome to the forum, and we hope to be hearing more from you as you feed your S&W fever!

John

Thanks for the welcome everybody!

I think that part of the reason that I have been taken by the S&W bug is because of how cheap (when you compare what you get) these older revolvers are to new plastic guns, or to imported guns. (not that there is anything wrong with either... I have some of each haha)

For example the last Smith I bought yesterday is a niece piece, it was a little rough on the eyes but locks up tight and has a sweet trigger (nicer than my 19 but not quite as smooth as my 29) Its made in America, has .357 firepower, and only cost me $350! For that price I might be able to get a new Ruger MKIII pistol after tax... but not much else of notability. I couldn't even get a used 9mm Glock!
