A prom date with hairy legs and a thigh holster.
I remember way (way) back when on my first prom, my lovely date confided that she almost forgot to shave her legs she was so excited. She later went on to graduate from college and become a police officer. She sent me a picture of her with a thigh-holster--and freshly shaved legs.
Only problem was, she also had a huge engagement ring on her finger.
Finally joining the S&W forum is just about that exciting for me as well, although I'll pass on shaving the legs.
I'm a longtime S&W wheelgun enthusiast. All that means is I own a few and love shooting them. I'm not an expert by anyone's stretch of the imagination, nor a historian--but I appreciate beyond belief those wheelgunners who are.
Ex-Air Force, ex-law enforcement (stinkin' fed) and ex-ad agency writer where the best gig of my entire life was in Las Colinas (Irving), Texas working for Ackerman McQueen. Some of you may recognize them as the powerhouse advertising and public relations agency for the National Rifle Association back in the 80's and 90's.
I was a copywriter who was blessed to have written ads for the "I'm the NRA" campaign along with "We'll Ask: Where Were You?" campaigns; I was on the launch for the I Refuse To Be A Victim operation and wrote the radio and television commercials that featured Susan Howard (of the television show Dallas fame).
I wrote lots and lots of ads highly critical of a newly elected Bill Clinton and his AG, Janet Reno, and remember working countless all-nighters when those two would try to slip their anti-gun bills in during late night or extreme early morning sessions. I remember helping lobby for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas while fretting over Judge Louis Freeh, whom some of my colleagues in a sister DOJ agency (FBI) had dealt with when he was both an AUSA and later a federal judge.
But best of all, I got to write speeches for Wayne LaPierre, James Jay Baker and Charlton Heston. It didn't get any better.
Nowadays, I'm semi-retired from the marketing world and just had my first novel published and released less than two weeks ago. Above Reproach is a staunchly pro-Second Amendment thriller in which law-abiding gun-owners and in particular, CHL holders, turn out to be the most effective "homeland security" America has when a particularly effective attack is launched on both the American people and the Constitution.
I'm here to read and to learn and in particular learn a bit about some of the newer handguns S&W is producing. I love my 686, 29, 66, 19 and my wife's Airweight--but I need to get some more insight on the newer "black" guns for an upcoming book that really highlights the gun-owner and CHL as an irrefutable force against domestic crime. I know the M&P is wildly popular, but am embarrassed to admit that I've yet to even fire one.
Anyhow, that's about it for me. Glad to be here and will try to sit quietly in the shadows for a while taking it all in.
JD

Welcome from Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
I wrote some editorials against Slick Willy around that time.

Muchas gracias to all for the warm welcome.
"Better memories" for sure. Life seemed to be a bit simpler then, and it was only what, twenty or so years ago?
Where DOES the time run off to?
I'm still an avid NRA supporter, but getting ready to up the support for TSRA (Texas State Rifle Association) as I feel the local grass roots efforts are where the battle lines over State sovereignty are going to be drawn and fought.
