Welcome from a refugee of the Garden State.
The GunShine State of Florida is now my home.
I have no knowledge concerning red dots.

welcome from MD.
I have learned my lesson on red dot scopes, the cheap one are trash, a few a few rounds or a battery change if they fit.I do not wish to mention any names like NcStar.
You get what you pay for with scopes look at the Aimpoints stuff, I have also had good luck with Bushnell red dot

Welcome to the site!
If you want a cheap red dot just to get acclimated with the technology, check out Primary Arms.

Yes they are cheap and, in all likelihood, won't hold up over the long term but they are also less than 1/4 the cost of a good Aimpoint and mount. I won't suggest taking one into combat... but as a learning device maybe it would be worth considering.
