Hello from France!
Hello everyone,
As a sports shooter and collector living in France, I'm particularly fond of Smith & Wesson revolvers, especially those produced between the 1930s and 1980s. My favorites are N-Frame: a 5" Model 27-2 and a Model 58 .41 Rem Mag (rare gun and caliber in Europe).
This forum seems to me the ideal place to share with other enthusiasts and continue to learn as much as possible about my favorite guns.
I'm counting on your indulgence for my English, which can sometimes be rather approximate (especially for technical terms).
Thank you for welcoming me among you.
Sincerely,
|

Welcome from northern NYS!
Rest assured your English will be far better than my French, heck I took it for a couple years in high school!-

Greetings!
I have been to your country and enjoyed it immensely. The .41 Magnum is one of my favorites. I shoot mine quite a bit. While not rare I run into a lot of (mostly younger) shooters that never heard of it.
Ammunition must be difficult to obtain over there. Here it is considered a "reloader's cartridge", meaning that if you want to shoot it you need to be able to reload the cases yourself. Finding factory ammo in gun stores here is difficult, but not impossible, but always expensive!
Do the laws allow you to relaod your own ammo in France?

Hello,
In France and more widely in Europe, the .41 Rem Mag is very rare. So yes, manufactured ammunition in .41 Rem Mag is very, very hard to find. I unearthed an old stock of Federal Power Shok 210 gr. from a big gunsmith and took a little more than half of the lot. Otherwise, Hornady LEVERevolution 190 gr. are distributed and tracked by the Hornady distributor for France. You can sometimes find other brands in Europe, but they're rare... and expensive!
So, yes, it's a caliber that's just right for hand reloading. It's perfectly possible in France for legally authorized shooters. The problem here is that .41 Rem Mag reloading components (notably cartridge cases) are almost as rare and expensive as manufactured ammunition. Apart from Star Line, there are no cases to be found, so it's strongly recommended to keep fired cases from manufactured ammunition.
For my part, I'm just starting out with reloading, and one of my first challenges will be to reconstitute the .41 Police and .41 HP loads originally designed by Keith for the .41 (Remington not having fully followed his recommendations at the time).
Here's the beast:
