Hello From Alabama
Greetings from Bama. Just wanted to say hi. I'm new here. I'm afraid my husband and I are not very proficient, when it comes to firearms. He is not much for handguns but prefers rifles & shotguns. I've only ever fired a gun once or twice and that was one of the shot guns. Let's just say I wasn't very impressed ha!
I'm hoping to learn more about gun etiquette and guns in general, as I also inherited a few I'd like to know more about. We live out in the country and own rural property. We have been having problems with poachers & vandals lately, so I thought it would be a good time to start carrying something for protection, when I'm on my own. Anyway, nice to meet everyone.

Hi and welcome from NW Alabama! And the fact you came to the forum looking to learn and become better informed says you're not "dum" at all. We're all uninformed about certain things. This is a good place to learn about firearms in general, S&Ws in particular. Glad you're here!

GunDumBlonde......
Hey: I thought about what you said and aside from my 'standard greeting' I'm glad to see you here as it denotes interest. I'd like to encourage you to learn more. A shotgun isn't the best way to be introduced to firearms. Something much lighter is best for beginners. Once you get used to and learn to handle the shock and recoil you can actually enjoy shooting bigger guns. Though I have some hard kicking firearms I have some lighter 'fun guns' that are really enjoyable. First thing is I wear double hearing protection, earmuffs and plugs, especially in the indoor range and of course safety glasses.
My 'fun guns' are:
A .22 Henry lever action rifle. Very light, no recoil and little noise.
A Ruger 9mm pistol caliber carbine, a little heavy but easy to shoot.
A Model 10 K frame revolver in .38 Special The old 'police gun'. with target ammo pleasant to shoot.
A Model 686 .357 magnum. Again with 38 Special it's a pleasure to shoot.
The ultimate is the AR-15. I wasn't interested in getting one until I had a chance to shoot one. Then I said, "I GOTTA have one of those" (so I got two, put them together myself). The ammo is cheap (nowadays) the recoil is very light, they are loud, but with the hearing protecion I don't even notice it when I'm shooting. The gun is light and handy and the ergonomics are GREAT!.
Normally I shoot a lot of 9mm pistols, some small carry guns like the S&W Shield series and others like the S&W 'third gen' full size guns that are all very comfortable shooters.
Since I reload I even make light loads for other guns. I have a light Savage 30-06 rifle that is a hard kicker, but I load light bullets with a light load of powder and my wife enjoys shooting it.
As far as carry and home defense I use the 9mm pistols, my wife has a .38 revolver and a .380 ACP Shield. If I want something bigger I have the 9mm carbines and If the **** hits the fan I've got the ARs.

Welcome aboard from North of Key Largo.
The Mrs first gun was the snub revolver in pic.
Sec6 usually wears Hogue rubber monos.
Keep it loaded with two 38spl snakeshots followed
by 158gr JSP soft shooting handloads.
Easy for her follow up shots and not something anyone
would like to get hit with.
A 6-8 shot Smith revolver would work when loaded properly for you. Lotsa choices these days.
She learned to shoot with a Smith K22, a Colt GM/45 and the old Colt Sporter with scope long ago.
She also has a Beretta Bobcat in 22LR.

Welcome from Wisconsin. (We're located just north of Chicago. If you're coming here, I'd suggest going around.)

Welcome from Tennessee
Recommend on-line searching for ‘NRA Women on Target’ for an introductory course near where you live.
Have fun, and enjoy shooting. My wife loves it.
