Gum spitters in parking lots

People have no respect for their own bodies, pouring garbage into it every day, you think they have respect for anything else?

It's deliberate.

Gum chewers, cigarette smokers, litter bugs, vandals, taggers and others who behave this way display by the physical actions their attitude towards society.

I have had various janitors tell me that womens restrooms are more dirty than the mens restrooms. What do you think?

Decades ago when I was in High School my summer job was working for our town. One of my duties was to take care of a small park to include watering the grass and cleaning the bathrooms. The mens room I would occasionally find a nudie magazine and guys could not figure out how to lift the lid. The womens bathroom I will not even try to describe the disgusting mess on a family forum.

The fun part of the park was the hippies. The very first day I tried to wake them up and tell them the water was about to come on, I had to turn the switch. After getting cussed at, flipped off and told all sorts of things a 17 year old kid should not hear I would stand back hit the switch and laugh like crazy watching all the hippies, dogs, fleas and what not vacating the park at high speed. Good times! Well maybe not the womens bathroom but everything else.

I once was driveing through a dessert area where a rancher had a irrigation sprinkler going in a lone hay field with bare dessert around it. Some hippie guy with long hair was dancing under it naked as a jay brid right alongside a well traveled road. His girlfriend sat patently watching in a microbus.
Another time I was driveing to vegas and was just north of buffalo bills at state line. Its absolutely in the open there for miles. A van full of people was pulled over waiting while this guy was leaning with his back pressed to the van, un, going #2! The freeway was bumper to bumper and they all slowed to almost a stop to "see the show"!
That must have been the worst minutes of that guys life!

That's my gripe for the day.

Joe
And a very fine gripe it is, Joe! Gum on the asphalt parking lots is one of, if not THE, main reason that I ordered the plain Jane rubber floor mats on my S-10 in 2002.
Some of that gum might make a good sealant or something maybe? What can it be used for after, "The Crisis", and new and different items develop high value? With the proper tools, one might plug a flat tire/bullet wound, whatever. The thing is, that it just does not want to come out of the carpet of your womans car after you drove it.
It is the chewer's right to chews I suppose.:p

Well said!

It's deliberate.

Gum chewers, cigarette smokers, litter bugs, vandals, taggers and others who behave this way display by the physical actions their attitude towards society.

That is the correct answer. Part of their behavior is because of the fact that the teens of today, not blaming anything on the teens, are the first generation born into this society, that believe that it ain't going to get any better than the present level of morals and economic:eek::eek::eek::eek:

The thing I hate the most is graffiti or gang slogans painted on peoples walls fences etc. If it was up to me if caught, the very LEAST thing I would do is take everything the artist owns, put it in a pile and torch it. I would say, hurts, dont it! If repeated, I would really get serious about punishment.
On a different note here, we own a rental. I have good renters in it, and I have put up big money in maintance, and fenceing etc. The problem is I might lose them when the years lease is up, and I wouldnt blame them! The turd next door to it is the most shiftless, shameless sob in 200 miles! His garage door totaly fell off and he wont fix it, a shed door blew off three years ago and is just laying there, I bet he has 10 dumpsters full of trash laying in the front and back yards! I would like to choke this sorry B------ out! What can be done with someone like that? Its straight across the street from that villages city building where all the town officals and small police station is and no one does anything!
Any suggestions?

I don't like the cigarette butts either, but at least they don't stick to your shoes.

Merril, maybe a call to your local newspaper about how the town is ignoring zoning violations right under their nose would light a fire under them. If that doesn't work, lighting a fire someplace else...

Steam cleaning with a pressure washer will remove gum from sidewalks. I am a former retail store manager. We used to clean the sidewalks ever so often. Problems is that cost money and the next day you will find fresh gum on the sidewalk. Some people are just animals. How about people who stick their gum under chairs?

It's in most parking lots, gum, butts, chicken bones and boxes, dirty diapers, some folks are worse than pigs.

I was in Singapore several times years ago It is prohibited to chew gum in public and it is not for sale in the country. There are signs warning at the arrivals area of the airport, along with the warning of very severe punishment for drug use and dealing death in some instances.

It's not really a complex issue, but a sad commentary on how the country has raised it's children.

The societal norm (for the majority) used to be that children were raised from a position of having respect and consideration for others (that pesky out-dated 'golden rule' thing, ya know?).

Now, it is quite obvious that (for the majority) children are raised from the position that their comfort, well being, and self esteem are the primary goals and consideration of others takes a back seat to that.

Since the original OP's point has been expanded I would offer one of the ones that really gets my goat - younger folks running the roads at all hours of the night in my area and pulling into all-night drive-thru's, then parking in the lot to eat and throwing their trash out under their car before pulling out instead of walking 20 to 50 feet to dispose of it in one of the receptacles around the lot provided by the establishment. Crude and 'common' in the worst sense. It would surprise them to know it, but anyone who demonstrates such actually has no real self-respect, much less any for anyone else. And no amount of reasoning or shaming seems to reach these types. Brute, dumb animals only respect force and fear, and of the proliferation of 'parents' that cannot/will not see their little darlings for the brute animals they've made them is dragging down our society. There is an appropriate time for a good slap upside the head when other methods have proven ineffective.

All of these things are bad enough but try to gas your car at the co-op just after Bubba and Sissy spit a 2 1/4 pound of chew out all over the ground. I have found that being behind the tractor trailer taking the hogs to market in August is much better....

I do try to spit my gum where it won't be a factor for others. Maybe I fall short at times.

I'd rather step in dog doo than a piece of gum. Gum spitters should be hunted for sport.

Oh yeah... I carry plastic bags when I walk the fourleggers. I am NOT one of "those" people. ;)

I see a much larger problem with the cigarette butts than gum.
I'm a non smoker and it is sickening to have to walk through a smokey doorway with butts everywhere except the butt cans.
Thank God for smoking bans indoors!

Leon

Couldn't agree more, and I am a smoker. I hate it when people smoke indoors or in crowds then toss their butts on the ground. Just gives people with respect toward others a bad rap.

Yes to all above, but don't forget those big, ripe Green Ginders that the Tough Guys like to deposit after hacking long and loudly so that everyone will see how bad they are. The cigarette butts don't bother me as much as those filters. Fiberglass lies around a long time, won't rot and heads to the streams, rivers and oceans. The paper-tobacco part disappears fairly quickly.
