I have had the opportunity to shoot an M&P9 for the last couple of days with a Leopold Deltapoint Reflex Sight mounted and I gotta tell you it's just *******' sweet. Sweet to the point that now I need to save my money and have one installed on one of my M&P's. Bowie Tactical Concepts out of Ohio seems to specialize in this procedure more that anyone else I've been able to find.

Has anyone had any dealing with they guys? They look first class but the turn time is a little long...6 months to mill the slide...mount the optic and of course Cerakote the slide after milling. I guess it shows they are very busy and know what they are doing.......but ****...6 months??? Am I off base and impatient or does this seem right to you guys??

It will look something like this..

No previous experience but I just sent the slide to Bowie for him to mount a Trijicon RMR and refinish the slide. I did speak with the folks at Trijicon about there sight, telling them I intended to have Bowie do the work. They stated Bowie did a few guns for them and they were very pleased with his work.

Thanks for the input and keep us posted please. Did you pay when you sent the pistol in or after the work will be completed but before they ship it back to you??

I just called David Bowie to check to see if my slide arrived. It has. He has charged my card for the entire work...~$325, which includes milling, mounting and melonite, a tall white dot front sight and milling/painting the reference line on the rear of the RMR sight. The reference line takes the place of a rear backup sight. Pictures of it can be found on his web site. When we talked he mentioned that he will put my order in with a whole bunch of others that need milling next week. Based on that I certainly don't expect to wait 6 months to get it back. With the melonite I would be surprised if I don't have it back within 6 weeks. I'll keep the forum posted.

That's awesome....he sounds like he's willing to work with the customers.

So how did this idea work out? Has anyone been able to get the Leupold sight mounted and get some experience with it? I am a little concerned about how the sight will stand up to the reciprocating action of the slide. Old-think when mounting optics on an auto pistol was always to keep it off the slide. But these sights are much lighter weight than a telescope or the older red-dot sights, and I would assume maybe a little more sturdy, too... ? I am not really interested in any type of grip mount, but if these little sights would stand up to mounting directly to the slide, that would be a great thing, I think! :D

I have shot the Bowie conversions at Tactical Defense Institute in West Union, Ohio, where Mr Bowie is an instructor. Certainly a sweet shooter ! John Benner, the owner of TDI calls it his "window gun."

A word of caution. Don't be tempted to install the reflex in place of the rear sight. Always be sure to retain an iron sight backup. A $4 battery failure might force you to try "instinctive shooting" for real.

Great work, terrible wait, somewhat hard to contact

I also had Dave work on my M&P compact. Trigger job, mill the slide, install a RMR reflex sight, and back up iron sights. Sent the gun in December of 2011. Got it back in the end of October, 2012. Dave is hard to get a hold of in the afternoon so call early in the morning. Gun came back with manual safety not functioning. Immediate repair with a two week turn around time. Trigger is one of the nicest non-1911 triggers you'll ever shoot. I consider the costs reasonable because how much is your life worth to you? Dave stood behind his work on the safety. If you're willing to wait almost a year turn around time, you get a nice fighting pistol. As a side note, the RMR is not holding its zero and going back to Trijicon for a repair. Trijicon said this is common with M&P due to recoil impulse.

Why don't you just get a M&P CORE?

- not limited to one optic
- the cost of milling is half the price of a CORE

Whoops I didn't realize this post had been risen from the dead. Yeah Bowie does great work, but if I were looking for one today it would make more sense to get the CORE.

- very nice weapon you have

Mr. Bowie is justly famous for his excellent work. However, if someone only wants the slide milled and suppressor style sights installed, there are much faster alternatives, such as OST if you are going to use the Trijicon RMR. Or, you could buy the CORE as suggested and use additional products, such as the Deltapoint.
Maybe because I am old, but I don't like to wait six months for gun work :)

Is anyone starting to see the CORE models become available? Around here, no one seems to know what they are, and when I asked a dealer to call for information about when they would be available the answer from S&W was, "We don't know right now." (At least they were honest! :))
