I just bought a m&p 40 compact and am looking for some holster options for both IWB and OWB. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I haven't received it yet but I have a full size 40 and I am going with Handmade Holsters, Knife Sheaths | Jacksonville, FL OWB. I have pretty good confidence this will be my 1 and only purchase. I went to 3 different forums and this name came up a lot. Have had contact with owners and so far they have been a great help. I didn't know what cant I needed and they had me just take a pic of how I want to carry with gun just tucked in belt and they did the math. Of course you will get 100 different opinions as is natural. I just don't want to buy 50 holsters to find 1 I like. If it works out, I will go with them for an IWB also. Good luck!:D

For IWB, I recommend the Remora. Extremely comfortable if your pants are the right size. Superior retention. I went with the RFT sweatband version. They have a sale right now which they will ship free of charge, a spare magazine holster if you spend more than $50 (I think).

I ordered one for my M&P 9c and one for my Glock 19. I really like this holster!

I just bought a custom made belt slide holster on Ebay from coye57. It's very well made. Today, I carried my 9C in it for the first time. It's very comfortable and fits well. For under $60, shipped, I don't think it can be beat.

I carry my M&P40 Compact daily in a Comp Tac MTAC IWB it is very well make and very comfortable, I also have the Cross breed Super Tuck as well as the Shielded Holster IWB and out of all them the MTAC is by far the superior holster in quality and comfort and it also fits all my full size M&P's as well so one holster for 6 M&P's ain't bad at all!

For OWB I recommend the Don Hume JIT Slide. It's simple,
comfortable, & secure. You can find them on Ebay for about
twenty five bucks shipped. I've got one for my 40c & 40 Shield,
& one for my 3rd Gens.

I like Lobo Gunleather's enhanced pancake with a body shield for OWB. And I like a Galco Tuk for IWB...I sometimes have to wear my shirt tucked so this holster works for that. With these two holsters I have all possibilities covered.

For all leather, I like Milt Sparks VMII. If you don't mind Kydex, it's hard to beat crossbreed.

The VMII keeps the pistol high on the belt, the crossbreed you can adjust to ride quite low.

Remora for IWB, you can put it where you like, and cant the gun at any angle. It will not work for on the belt, but you will not find a more comfortable holster to carry IWB. I have eight of these for variouse pistols I carry.

I have a Crossbreed SuperTuck with Horsehide for my M&P 40c and a Remora IWB #6ART-SS with Remora-Hyde leather liner as well both awesome holsters I usually wear the Remora everyday and the Crossbreed every once in a while. (Usually when dressing up with a shirt tucked in). I highly suggest the Remora #6ART-SS by far the most comfortable IWB holster I've ever worn, and with the clip-less design it can be worn with everything, jogging pants, basketball shorts, pajama pants while lounging around the house, and of course with pants. I really like the sweat shield for the M&P because it guards your skin from the aggressive slide serrations, and I like the ART (combat cut stands for artemis) for the positive grip when drawing and it helps to not interfere with the mag release button. The leather liner is nice it reduces the width slightly but does add a couple ounces in weight.

Here is the link to the series #6ART you will have to choice which modifications you prefer, like the sweat shield, tuckable, reinforced top etc.
Remora Series 6ART Holster (IWB)

I just ordered an old faithful IWB kit ($42, you assemble) for my 9c. Will update when it gets in.

I use a comp-tac minotaur for my 9c and it also works with my shield. it's the only one I found that has leather backing to cover up the rivets so they don't rub on your skin.

I also use a pjholster and remora sometimes for my carry pistols.
