shot about 300 rounds through a brand new gun around the 250 mark the slide started hanging up and i could hear metal grinding so i striped it and its coming from the hammer grinding on the slide block that resets the hammer and now its pitted and rough to the touch just seeing if anyone has been having to same problem and if i should return it to S&W

Man thats a bummer to hear from a new gun.

Just curious what ammo were you using?

Yes, I had the same problem with just around 50 rounds. Kept having fail to feed problems. Slide action very tight and gritty where hammer rubs on slide block. I ended up sending it back to S&W. Not back yet. I've posted on several threads here.
how long ago did you send it back? wondering if i should do the same or not...

what lube were you using ? ...sounds like you were running it dry ...I like to overlube a new weapon until I get some rds. through them...my m&p .22 has had over 15k rds. through it & is slick as glass with a trigger that is almost to light ...I use Mobil 1 [0>20wt] motor oil in all my weapons including class 3 & it works real good ....take care

I had a similar problem with my M&P 22. After cleaning it, lubing and reassembling it as I had done many times before, the slide suddenly felt gritty and would get stuck in the rearward position. I knew something wasn't right so I immediately took it apart before attempting to shoot it . A couple of things that I did (one or more of which fixed it) - I reversed the recoil spring (I don't think its directional, but maybe it develops a "direction" that it likes after repeated use. Took out the rod assembly and made sure it was completely reseated, pulled the trigger and held onto it with my thumb, then reset it manually. Put everything back together again and the problem was gone, smooth as butter once again.

Called smith and there sending me a shipping label kinda sucks that it will be gone for about a 4-5 weeks but its whatever also im shooting mine with a silencer which makes the gun dirty in about 10 shots but the im thinking that the blow back grit and dirt shouldint be enough to dig a groove in the slide block thing and hammer.
