Just received my M1917 after searching for 2 years. Want to know the best way to load and unload the full moon clips. Cases seem very tight to install and especially remove.

Search Moonclip tool on Google...There are many Tools available that make it easy to load and unload your moonclips...

Alot easier than hurting your fingers everytime you put a round in and out

I made a demooner out of a short piece of CPVC pipe.
Make it long enough to hold six empties.
That worked well, then I just stopped using moon clips altogether and just put them in and out one at a time.

Here are a few pictures of the tool I use. It's not the fastest, but with the price of .45acp - that's probably a good thing ;)

Do you mean you started using .45 auto rim and stopped using .45 acp?
How else can "you put them in and out one at a time" ?
Just wondering if I'm missing something..
Thanks for any info

You do not need clips to use .45 ACP. Cases will seat on the chamber step. You just can't use the extractor, and you must pull out or punch out every empty case individually. Slower, but it works.

I just use the regular 45ACP brass.
The headspace on the case mouth in my 625.
There is enough rim sticking out of the back of the cylinder to easily pluck them out with my fingers.
I shoot a 4.0 grain target load so the brass doesn't really stick in the chambers.

I have one of these demooners since my first moonclip,it works great with my 1917, 625 and Webely , about the size of a medium - large screwdriver, plenty of leverage and easy to find in a range bag. about $19.00 bucks

Moonclips...let the swearing begin!

I used them once. Even bought the tool. Grief. I then found a real good deal on 400-500 rounds of AR brass. Never looked back.

I still keep the ACP for my automatics.

Moon clips. Some love 'em. Some "don't love" 'em.

I fall in the former group. Love 'em!

Speedloaders simply cannot compete with full moon clips for easy and speed of reloading a revolver.

If you shoot any significant volume, a faster mooner/demooner will be appreciated.

For the M625 .45ACP (modern equivalent to your 1917), I use this demooner http://www.dillonprecision.com/content/p/8/stype/?searchVar=demooner and this mooner California Competition Works Remooner Moon Clip Loading Tool 6 Shot

For the M627 .357, this combo mooner/demooner tool is hard to beat http://www.bmtequipped.com/products.php

This is the one I use. It works great.

If speed is your goal, buy enough clips so that you preload them. Demoon and remoon at home.

Zbreze,

You may want to check out the BMT Mooner. Their website is bmtequipped.com. I tried several different tools before settling on this one. None of the others were as quick or easy to use. They're a bit expensive, but worth it to my mind if you're going to burn through the ammo; and with moon clips it's easy to do!

What he said.

As for being slower, obviously clips are quicker for the actual reloading process if one is being set upon by adversaries. If one is target shooting, I would speculate that if the time spent loading and unloading those blasted clips is factored in, it takes as much time or longer to fire, say, 50 rounds, using clips than it would take to load the rounds individually.
