Ordered a recoil and hammer spring set from wolff for the 4043 and got them Friday.
All the info says this one takes the long spring pac but flat can't get the grip to go back on with the 16 lb long spring in place.
Side by side it looks like the Wolff spring is slightly smaller in diameter and has 2 extra coils in length from the one that is in the pistol now. Everything tells me the long spring pac fits this one but the gun itself.
Anybody here had this issue??
Pistol groups nice for me but the trigger pull on the DAO is heavier then it needs to be.
So heavy in fact that my wife just can't shoot it well as she is dropping the barrel when she pulls the trigger.
Plan to call Wolff on Monday does any one here have any insight on this?

I had the same problem with the wolff spring pack. It was too long and wouldn't fit for love or money.
My 4046 has a great trigger, my 5946 will wear you out after one mag.

Thanks for the response as the 4043 is the same pistol as the 4046 but with the aluminum frame.
What did you do go with the short spring kit from Wolff for yours? Since your 4046 has a nice trigger now what weight spring did you use in the end?
My 4043 groups well if I really take my time but is a bear to shoot quickly with as that trigger is way to heavy. The wife flat cant hit anything with it as she pulls way low because of that heavy trigger.

Thought I would hit you guys with an update.
First off the armor at the range i use was the one who could not get the Wolff long spring 16lb in the 4043. I had never disassembled the grips on a 3rd gen S&w so I had him pull it and show me the drill.
I later found an online video on these then pulled the grips myself and had no problem dropping the 16 lb long spring in.
Today I had the 4043 on the range and ran a couple hundred rounds of several types of .40 without a hiccup of any kind.
She ate absolutely everything I threw at it and every primer showed a solid strike with the 16lb spring.
Trigger pull now with the lighter spring is a whole other world.
Think this one will be a keeper!

Went to a big out door shoot today and the 4043 performed flawlessly. I even did a little IDPA style rapid fire with her today in a pistol competition.
Here is a video from the Shot Heard Across the Nation noon event. I am the only one here running a hand gun and dropped 12 pretty rapidly considering the DAO and long double reset on the 4043.

Using the 16 lb hammer spring in this 4043 made a huge difference in the trigger feel and turned an ok pistol into a real shooter!!

Would you mind measuring your Wolff 16# spring? Mine is easily 1/4" longer than the factory spring. Just got my 4043 off layaway last week to go with my 4046, but haven't had a chance to shoot it.

Sounds about right. I will get it measured or a side by side photo hopefully tomorrow as I have a 3 spring low power set from Wolff. The 16 is in my 4043 but the stock spring and the 2 others are loose. The Wolff 16 was noticeably longer than the stock spring that I know.
Made a huge difference in the trigger pull on my 4043 and I'm getting rock solid deep primer strikes with the 16.

Ok I have my stock spring here with the 17lb and 18lb I got in the reduced power kit from Wolff. The stock spring is indeed about 1/4 in shorter then the Wolff replacements are. I had no real issue getting the grips back on with the longer spring when I carefully spread the grips seated the spring retainer with the grip a little low on the backstrap then slid the grips all the way forward first and then slipped them straight up until they popped into place. However the grips flat would not go on trying to install them by just sliding the grips forward after seating the spring retainer with the grips slid up all the way to the top using the longer spring.
I have the 16lb out of the kit in my 4043 now and it performs flawlessly. Trigger pull was noticeably lightened and I am getting deep clean primer strikes on every round.
I highly recommend going to the Wolff 16 lb hammer spring on your 4046!

I finally put the Wolff 16# spring in my 5946, hopefully it lowers the trigger pull as it is a really heavy trigger. I think my 4046 has a factory 16# spring, as it has a great trigger. I just got a 4043 but have not fired it so I don't know how the trigger is.
