The SAM pistol is a poor choice for HD, and a ridiculous idea for woods carry. The forearm brace is a new commodity that is being exploited as a legal way around the SBR; I've handled several similarly configured "pistols" in .223/5.56 ... try to shoulder it and get on target quickly ... good luck. Good for a bug out bag perhaps, but very few people are skilled in short barrel firearm handling.
If you want to be a closet commando and get one for an "entry gun" THEN pay the $200 for the suppressor fee, THEN another $1K for the can, it's your bankroll. At that point you're in for ~$2,500. If you want a short AK, look at the N-Pap underfolder for ~ $599.
For HD, you'd be a lot better served with a sound 12 gauge, with a pocketful of money saved.
For woods carry, any large caliber revolver is satisfactory for two- or four-legged North American predators. S&W Mountain Guns, Ruger Hawks, the list is nearly limitless. If that's not enough firepower, then look into a .45-70 lever gun with 16" barrel.
