I was going through some of my revolvers when I found this one. It is a ladysmith .38 special. They seem to be pretty common in .357 magnum but I don't see them often in .38 special with a three inch barrel. Anybody have any info on how many were produced?

This is one I haven't seen before. If you have the box post a pic of the end label. If it came with a soft case only, there might be paperwork with the gun that has the Product Code and Spec. Ord. number on it. Post a pic of that paperwork.

Otherwise, when you open the cylinder and look at the frame under the barrel what is the Model Number (ex: M.65-5, MOD. 64-5, 65-4), and what is the Serial Number (three letters & four numbers)? Ignore any other numbers or letters on the yoke (the part the flops out and holds the cylinder). The s/n is also on the bottom of the grip frame.

Yep. 3" Model 60. I have one, too, but not a Lady Smith. No idea on production but the one I have, DAO with factory bobbed hammer, is possibly one of a 2000 unit run.

According to the standard reference, the first 60 LS would have been a -3 from 1989, in both 2 and 3". Earlier ones had a red hard plastic case, and the later ones the soft Bob Allen version. I have seen -7s also but I don't ever recall seeing a 3".

I have one like yours from circa 1986, but it's a 2-inch-barrel model.

As far as how many were made, I'd say "not that many," since I didn't see very many of them back then. Some, but not a lot.

I don't have the gun here but my records show it to be a model 60-3 Serial #BDV63XX. I bought it used a good while back and only got the gun.

....model 60-3 Serial #BDV63XX.
Product code was 102309. This gun would of shipped in.....

April of 1989.

I have never seen production numbers for these, but it was a popular cataloged model. I suppose it would be in the thousands. They shipped in a special "Morocco grained maroon leather" case. It seems odd to me that someone would spend $500 on a gun, then throw away the custom-deluxe fitted case  , but it happens all the time. You can buy them on eBay. ;)
