I enthusiastically recommend the Everett Railroad's new steam locomotive powered excursion train to anybody. Located just a few miles from Altoona, Pa in Hollidaysburg, just off PA Rt. 36, the train usually runs one weekend per month. The one hour ride through the rolling hills is a perfect first train ride for children and adults. The equipment and depot are kept in top notch condition. There are plenty of other attractions within a twenty mile radius too. Horsehoe Curve, the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum, The AA baseball team- Altoona Curve, many nice shops, restaurants and places to visit in Duncansville and historic downtown Hollidaysburg. You can also take the family to DelGrosso Amusement and Water Park in Tipton.

Anyhow, Check out Everett RR website The Everett Railroad Company | Steam Train Excursions | Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania
They will be running more trains through the fall and winter too.

Here are a few cell phone photos for this past weekend.

The theme was "WWII Victory Weekend" and there were multiple young men and women in period dress on the trains June 25th & 26th.

That's a very nice train ride. I lived in Juniata for 2 years back in the early 80's. There was another one back then, might be the same one called Broad Top. In that area, if it's still open was a coal mine you could tour. That was neat too, Seldom Seen Mine in Patton, Pa.
One of the best railroad rides I was ever on was over the White Pass in Alaska...don't do it if you are scared of heights!!!
