Remington's New non nfa shotgun

Really wish I hadn't seen this thread... :p

Where can I find the Aguila Mini-shells?

Pros and cons... which one to get Mossberg or Remington?

From an old time 870 guy, and even without the mini shell adaptor or me not being wrong-handed (left :D ) I vote for the mossy.
ETA:
My reasons are that after dust has settled and supply catches up with demand, the Moss will likely still be significantly cheaper plus holds an additional round of 2-3/4".

OK, gonna show my ignorance now. How is this not an NFA weapon ?

...I think it's a new interpretation of the law...it is over the 26 inch minimum overall length...and it was originally manufactured with the 14 inch barrel...

...I am pretty sure you can't legally replicate an identical one at home...

...I bought a new pistol grip shotgun...didn't like it...and put a shoulder stock on it...you couldn't do that with the shotgun in question without changing to a longer 18+ inch barrel or you will have produced an illegal short barrel shotgun just by changing the stock...

It drives through a bus size loop hole in the law/regulations. It is classified as a firearm but is neither a shotgun nor pistol. Therefore, it can't be an SBS or a smoothbore pistol.

Big caveat though, if you carry it concealed it is not clear-cut to my reading that it is exempt from NFA. Since it isn't a pistol, I don't think my CPL covers it, nor could I keep it in the front seat of a vehicle.

I wouldn't post videos/phots of myself drawing a Shockwave from underneath my winter jacket just in case.

Hickok did a very positive review on the Shockwave. It's surprisingly shootable and even slugs weren't too punishing.

The Mossy will always be less expensive. It will hold more rounds. From what I hear, with the after market adapter, it is fairly reliable (not completely) with Aguila mini shells. I got the Remmy because I have quite a lot of trigger time with it over many, many years. I am right handed, so the safety placement suits me. With the 2 1/4 " mini-buck Nobel Sport shells, it holds five in the magazine (but the Mossy will hold more). The 2 1/4" mini-buck shells cycle through my Remmy, but I haven't had a chance to pattern them or see how they cycle during live fire, but I expect success. There are extended mags available for the Remmy, even +1 extensions. I like the looks of the Magpul forend of the Remington produced shorty. I think for someone who isn't left- handed, it is a toss up. I think the quality is pretty much there equally. These babies are a handful with full house slugs or 00 buck, so if one isn't careful, the recoil can send that Mossy safety back to bite the web of the hand.

watch some videos before you buy one, they are pretty informative. You give up a lot of control for a small decrease in overall length.

Two things I've seen done on these in another thread here on the Mossberg is stippling the grip for better purchase (prevents safety bite with the Mossberg) and porting the barrel to mitigate some of the recoil/muzzle rise (applies to either), which the more I think about it seem to be must-dos for these short shotguns.

I got a chance to shoot my Asylum Weaponry Remington 870 Gatekeeper today. I shot several of the Nobel Sport 2 1/4" Mini Buck shells. There are 6 00 buckshot with an advertised velocity of 1250 fps. They functioned without any problems. They patterned well at 10 yards (under 8"), but at 15 yards, forget it. You may get a couple on a B-27 if you're lucky. The recoil was very manageable and no problem endangering my face when the gun was held up to eye level and fired using the front bead. The strap I added on the forend was very useful and helped control even when I fired some 2 3/4" full load 00 buck (9 pellets). It is still hard to control with the full house 2 3/4" 12 ga. loads, but the more I shot, the better I got, so there is a learning curve (at least for me). I had put a piece of bicycle inner tube on the birdshead grip. It did seem to help with keeping my grip. After several rounds, the inner tube rode up slightly towards the trigger guard, but didn't present any problem and still was useful. The photo below is of a 2/34" 12 ga. slug, a 2 1/4" Mini Buck and an Aguila mini load. I tried the mini loads, but they had to be individually pushed into the chamber, so they aren't a consideration for the Remmy IMHO.

I really only have one question... where's the 20ga model? I've owned pistol grip 12ga's before, and I just don't think I'll be needing another. Recoil is just a tad too much, don't get me wrong I can shoot it, but it isn't pleasant. Maybe with the mini shells it would be ok, but the 870's don't always work great with them. 20ga on the other hand is just right in a short barreled/pistol grip gun. Plenty of HD loads for 20ga, even a couple of rubber buckshot options.

I like it and the Mossberg version called the Shockwave I just hope that they will eventually offer them in other shotgun calibers besides 12 gauge.

I agree with you. I don't even enjoy shooting full house 00 buckshot out of my 870 with 20" barrel and full stock. The Nobel Sport 2 1/4" Mini Buck shells however are a different animal. They feed reliably in my Remington 870 Asylum Weaponry Gatekeeper II and the recoil isn't hard to control. They are actually pleasant to shoot. They pattern well out to 10 yards, too.
