Curious about ammo and ported barrels?

I was looking at a box of federal ammunition, 9mm, 115 grain FMJRN. It says not for use with ported barrels or ported recoil compensators.

Now I don't have a ported barrel but was wondering why this is an issue?

Anyone?

Thanks.

Because Federal loads that type ammo on the low end of the power factor scale. Ported or compensated guns will likely have cycling issues, such as fte, while using it.

I ask the same question on another forum and was told it was due to excessive muzzle flash with the powder Federal is using. Can anyone verify which one is correct? I shoot it a lot of it due to the price and it shoots great in all my guns so I just wondered what the answer is.

There has been a couple other threads on this, wasnt able to paste any links for them though this am.

I contacted the various ammo manus directly (I have a PC Shield) and was given their suggestions on what ammo is or is not for ported use.

Seems Blazer said no, due to thin plating that potentially could flake off and exit the ports. Other ammo in their brand line is ok.

Seems the Federal brand was not ok but their American eagle was. Best to just check with the manu of the ammo you use to confirm what will work for your needs.

Edit: found the reply from Federal; not much for info but it was all i needed to know. Again asking them directly is probably best.

We suggest using the American Eagle 9mm ammo, do not use the Champion brand brass or aluminum in your ported S&W.

Thanks
