Buck Model 119 and 120 knives

I gave a Buck knife to every boy and man on my Christmas list a few
years ago. I figure every man & boy should have a Buck knife. Not
being sexist, I just think there are other things girls and women prefer.

I give a lot of knives as gifts. The women and girls get them, too. Conchita likes Case slipjoints, as does one of the girls. The other one likes Kershaw flippers.

Buying gifts for many, I have to keep the price down. The Buck Bantam can be found as cheap as $13, very doable. The small Buck slipjoints also get a good reception.

Yep 110's and 119's are my favorites. Here's a well used 110 that I've had since High School days, yes back then (mid '70's) we could carry a knife at my school; imagine that.... And I picked up this White handled 119 from a pile of knives at the Dallas Gun Show a few years ago.

I have a Buck 120 that I carried on my LBE while I was in the Army. :)
However, in RVN I inherited a Gerber MK-2 :):):) and carried that for my time in-country.
I gave it to a good friend there when I came home so it stayed in the Dust-Off Det.

Lonestar, that white handle 119 is the smooth bone Bass Pro exclusive. It is available on the 119, the 105 & 102. It was on the 110, but is no longer available.

I think the Buck custom shop can supply white handles of either bone or white Micarta.

However, those are individual orders and probably cost more than finding one via Bass Pro Shop.

Many years ago, Buck offered white handles of something called Melonite (?), but discontinued them, as they sometimes cracked in extremely cold weather.

I've seen Eskimos/Innuit in Labrador using Buck knives and many have them in places like Alaska, so that was a serious consideration.

I have a Buck 119,I must admit I didn't know there was a Buck 120,I want one now after seeing a picture of one.

It's often mentioned on YouTube that the Model 120 was the knife used in the series of, "Scream" horror movies. And I saw one on the old "90210" TV show. Some guy carved a Jack-o-Lantern with it.

You can find some Model 120 videos on YouTube.

I own both Model 119 and 120 knives and like both.

One YouTuber said the Model 120 just looks bad to the bone. And it does...

Do you know what they charge for Model 105 and Model 119?

I wonder how stable the bone handles are in all weather conditions.

You mean a Model 119? New? Sorry that he didn't get to take it hunting or hiking. Maybe he meant to give it to you as a present and died first?

I imagine that you'll take good care of that knife.

I wanted my dad's hunting knives from Ka-Bar and custom maker G.W. Stone, but his widow sold them. (?) I think her son has his guns. They won't discuss it.
My brothers and I never got along too well with Father's second family.

Yes, my proof reader took the night off.

Taking another look at it, not brand new but in excellent shape.

Ok, that's good to know. Now that you mention it the seller said he thought it was bone and it is kind of off white in color with a grainy look. I liked as soon as I saw it though and I haven't run across another one since. Thanks again.

That old flap sheath almost looks like elephant hide, but I'm sure it isn't.

You may know this, but Buck's site has a place to tell how old your knife is. But I think it begins with about 1986, when their blade code began.

I think those flap sheaths are older. But it won't hurt to check.

They were on my short list for a while, when Cabela's bought BassPro I figured I better grab them while they were still available. I think they were $120 each. Bought online with free shipping. Now I see they are listed as "not available online". With no price.

So I'm really not sure.

Does the black handle get slippery when wet or with blood on it? always wondered, but never used one.

thanks.

They are a little slick. But the guard and crows beak pommel keep it in your hand. A piece of inner tube from ten speed bike works well too.

I thought some here may be amused by this review of the Model 120. The lad is a bit rustic, but made a better video than some. And he genuinely likes that knife.

I think if you pay more than 60.$ or so for a 119, with the standard black phenolic handle and leather sheath, uou’re Getting hosed:

True, but that's not what I'm talking about. I was answering a question about a special edition, with smooth bone, made for Bass Pro.
