Kimber K6S Reviews and

...I will be getting either a K6 or an Sp101 3". Haven't decided yet.

I am at the same place, k6 or sp101.

Also still considering a 3" speed six instead. I had one of those, kick myself for letting it go. They are a little heavier, not sure...

I'd say if you want to be able to thumb cock the hammer, Ruger is your only bet. If you want to conceal it and you plan on shooting it DA, you might want that Kimber.

The New Model Colonel Samuel Colt’s Revolving Pocket Pistol of Police Caliber (the new Colt’s Cobra in .38 special) is also another option. It has a hammer allowing for a precise hostage rescue shot or long range shot in a defensive scenario. The Kimber or other DAO revolving pistol could get you killed if you had to take a precise and accurate shot, or worse, make you accidently shoot junior or wifey ! !

Yeah but that Colt is in .38 only. Plus, it's trigger stacks. Really nice in SA but in DA, it reinforces with Smith won out in the revolver market back in the day.

Of course, your mileage may vary.

Practice more. I don't know if I would or could even make myself take that shot, irrespective of the weapon I am carrying. I don't live in the movies; but, I can tell you that the only way I would ever, ever, take that shot is if I were sure I could make it. I'll take my own advice that I provided you, I will practice more.

From my experience of only a couple of hundred rounds, I can regularly make "that shot" on a stationary target. However, having been in combat, I will tell you if faced with that movie scenario, I would probably be shaking like a cat crapping a peach seed and wouldn't be able to take the shot.

My name is Mike and, I am a stubby fanatic. I put the snub's in 3 categories. The lightweights 13/15 oz., the medium's 23/28 oz.,and the big boys at 34/40oz.

I have not touted the Kimber K6 because out of respect we are a S&W forum but the OP asked for opinions.
The Kimber K6 to me is without a doubt the best manufactured
stubby that our industry has produced in a very long time.

Pros: the trigger just rolls to a single action pull or you just pull threw it.
the sights, 6 shots, all steel (inside and out), the weight, the balance,
and the K6 shoots absolutely lights out.
Cons: price (but like the old man asked"how much is your life worth" ?) I hope that
my opinion helps.

I'm Leary about the 1 year warranty. Only 1 year, seriously?

Ruger offers no warranty at all, but when I have had problems (all after years of ownership) they have fixed my guns (3) at no charge. So, we'll have to see what Kimber actually does in practice.

Ruger's issue with a written warranty was conforming to the laws of 50 states was a headache -- they found it better just to build a reputation of standing by their guns and customers.

Based on all the responses, I decided to go through the trade in the original post. Took it straight to the range and boy am I glad I made the trade! I've hated hammerless revolvers all my life, but the Kimber is totally different. You can basically shoot it single action if you desire and the double action is slick as glass. Been back and forth between a 3" Mod 65 and a Mod 60 for carry and really like them both, but the Kimber stands a good chance of becoming number one in the rotation. Only negative thing I can say is I'm not 100% crazy about the small grips that leave the pinky hanging. I shot about 50 rounds of standard 38 getting used to the trigger and followed up with about 25 +P Golden Saber which is my normal carry round and even with the small grips were very easy to control. If anyone has any suggestions for a replacement grip that would be a little longer, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I already have a Model 60-0 that was modified by the LAPD armorer to only shoot DA, but I am still leaning toward the K6.
It's a beautiful gun on which I think they got everything right.

The appeal of the SP101 is the price....comparatively. If the price of the two were the same it would be a no brainer.

Try the Altamonts with the extended bottom of the grip normally found on the 3 inch. Have that grip on my K6s 2" and makes it a much better shooter and not difficult to conceal. Also love the adjustable rear sight. Own and have owned many snubbies Smith, Colt and Ruger but this K6 with the adjustable night sights and long grip is clearly the best. My Smith snubbies include the 640 Pro but the Kimber is a better revolver.

I am no fan of Kimber. Swore off them almost 20 years ago. BUT - I will be buying a 3 inch K6. Finest revolver made today, with the exception of the Nighthawk branded Korths.

The 3 inch has as nice a trigger as my pre lock PC 586-5 L-comp and it is almost as good as my gunsmith slicked up 3 inch 13-3.

Our manager at the LGS bought one. He is an revolver fan. Has over 200 pre lock S&Ws and Colts. He claims the K6 is as good as any revolver he owns. He hits the 100 yard gong on the range with his 3 inch K6 on demand.

Three pulls on a K6 trigger and you will be able to stage it - easily - for single action shots. The K6 is everything you need in a revolver and nothing you don't. Buy one. You will be glad you did. Regards 18DAI

Very interesting and there is one close to me for sale. It’s new old stock, brand new. Not sure if it’s one of the early ones they made. Is there a difference between the early models and the new ones?? When did Kimber start making them? Have a 640 in .357 that is with me 24-7. One more shot is small package would help. Larry

The early base model guns had a satin finish (almost polished). Now the base models have a brushed (much less polished) finish, and the satin finish is an upgrade. So if you can get an early one, get it. Also, the later guns had more sight options, which might be nice, but I kind of liked the original low profile sights.

I grew up with revolvers , shooting dads s&w model 28 but when I turned 21 I bought Dan Wesson revolvers and still hunt with my old 1976 DW 15-2 revolver and carried a sunbby for 13 years as one of my carry handguns . I like Kimber's 1911's but I would not buy or trade for a K6s . First NO TRIGGER OPINION . IF you think a 2" or even 3" revolver in 357mag is all that you need to fire some rounds over a chronograph for a real surprise even with BB or underwood loads . I would rather carry a Kimber stainless ultra 9mm that cost less , carry's thinner and at least you can carry 9 with 147hst ammo with several after market mags . My wifes runs with Wilson etm 9 rounds for carry and have quick to reload with 10 round mags as back up .

Or if you just gota have a revolver buy a colt cobra , cost is far lower new it carries 6 rounds and it has a hammer on it and it is a proven design .

When I found a strong thin light 40sw in a tp40 kahr about 11 or 12 years ago I made the change and will never carry under 4" revolver again and never for concealed carry . The kahr handles 155gr that average 1320fps , 135gr will exceed the 1400fps velocity . 1425in my kahr . Don't shoot these loads in a shield .

Kinda harsh wasn't it !!
