Guys, I have been on the fence regarding the new IWI Tavor 7. I have the Tavor X95 and love it because it's a great gun for close quarters.

But I am having reservations for buying the T7

1. It is rated for 2.3 MOA which is kind of meh
2. The barrel is not free floated
3. There are conventional AR10's that are more accurate and about $400 less.
4. .308 is really meant for glass and a long barrel. The T7 is really only good for close quarters but who uses this for that purposes?
5. Ammo is very pricey and not cheap.
6. In a SHTF situation I think I would probably opt for my 5.56

That said any reason to get the T7?

You've talked us both out of wanting one, even.

Ha....lol....I didn't mean to do so but when I bought the FN PS90 and after I learned how expensive ammo was, I ended up selling it because it was absolutely useless to just have something to look at.

Yes I like the .308 cartridge but yikes ammo is just as much as a steak dinner at a cheap restaurant.

Most AR10's are way to heavy for me to carry. Weight becomes an issue for us sometime in our lives, or for the last 4-5 years I have been going lighter.

Thats another thing I forgot to add, the weight of an AR10 is almost 10lbs and with a scope it would be even more

It's weight in the wrong place, too. The whole deal with a bullpup is to keep the weight up near your shoulder.

I suspect the Tavor 7 is set up to be "combat accurate", and 2.3 MOA fits that number. Do they specify what ammo for that figure? I have a Howa that shoots lights out with 168-175 gr fodder, but is probably a 6 MOA gun at best using surplus 7.62 NATO. Same ammo in a converted 1912 Mauser is far more accurate.

One of the critics said the Tavor 7 rifling was not ideal I think it was 1 and 10 twist I think, i don't know much about twist rates but it was said that was another downfall of this gun.

Yes the weight of the T7 is probably by the shoulder making it ideal for close quarters but then with the muzzle brake being right by your ear not sure if that is something I want as well.

All my 308's are 1/10 twist, the twist rate is not the problem. Be Safe,

I like the Tavor in 223/300 BLK, which I think are good options for someone that was born after AUG's. 308 is not a CQB gun for me, to bulky, too heavy, less ammo per mag. When I want semi auto 308, accuracy I go DPMS SASS, if I want more accuracy I go to a modified Savage model 110 SA 308, If I have to go longer than 1K that is what they made 338 WM or Barrett 82A1. I love bullpups, but a crisp "target" trigger is not there. Be Safe,

I couldn't agree more with you. The T7 seems cool and looks cool on paper but when you are actually using it for close quarters it would suck pretty bad because of the extra weight and muzzle blast would be awful

A while back I was interested in a NIB 5.56 Tavor that someone was selling for $1500. Wow was my first reaction until I went to their webpage and found it was around 9 1/2 lbs. 2 lbs more than my LMT 224 Val. No thanks. Learned some more negatives here.

Definitely a battle rifle. Military Arms Channel did a review back in Aug that was very positive. Not sure if it suffers from the typical bullpup trigger issues, but accuracy is what you would expect from a battle rifle. In their video they were able to shoot 1.3 to 1.8 MOA groups with match grade ammo.

For those wanting a bullpup 308, the Tavor 7 is a good option and a little cheaper than the Desert Tech MDR.
