American Rifleman, Nov. '19 Issue, Page 64, began a write-up of two Kel-tec guns, one being the above-mentioned pistol, a .22LR tape dispenser-shaped pistol, and their KS7 shotgun. I'm thinking, with all the .22 semi-auto pistols out there, along with the wheel guns, why would one want or do with this gun? It is a very, to be nice, unconventional-looking gun. My opinion only, it doesn't seem to be a gun you'd want to show off at the range. Does anyone here have or even want one? List price $475. For a $400 plus pistol, I'm really confused about its use. Anybody?

I skipped the part about the CP33 because it's a bit weird even for me. If the KS7 came in 20 gauge, I'd be buying one.
 
You guys are funny. Here are the five factors that dominate handgun sales:

- Highest capacity
- Smallest size
- Lowest weight
- Lowest price of gun
- Lowest price of ammo

On enthusiast boards like this one, we lose sight of what the other 98% of gun buyers want. Kel-Tec is in business because they understand these 5 factors. Many companies forget and they struggle or go out of business.

For this particular pistol, its appeal is, primarily, two things: (1) 33rd capacity; (2) 24 oz weight. Pretty amazing for a 22lr pistol if they can make it reliable.

I had the PMR-30 (somewhat similar, but no rail and in 22mag with 30 rd capacity and 17 oz loaded) and the CMR-30 (carbine version) for a while and were they more reliable, I would still have both. However, I had a cartridge fire slightly out of battery on the CMR and the entire xytel grip frame shattered and exploded in my hand. Aside from a few minor cuts and abrasions, I was ultimately ok. Needless to say, both went back to keltec for full (mostly) refunds.
 
The other appeal I believe would be the addition of a brace, which several companies are working on. A red dot, brace and 33-50 round mags makes this interesting to me. However the mags are finicky with loading and it does have that awkward appearance. The design itself is also rather large and cumbersome as a pistol, but with a collapsible stock or brace it would be fun in my eyes.

I'm kinda curious now. At the site, and this style pistol, did you happen to see if it came in any other caliber? With that shape, I wonder if something slightly more powerful like .32 ACP or .380 would be available? A 9mm may have a little too much kick for this shape, or maybe not. My main thing is there are tons of .22s out there for plinking, etc., so why do I want to buy this gun? For varmints such as groundhogs, raccoons, ferrel cats, etc. we have very accurate wheel guns and already plenty of semi-autos. I have zero experience with Keltec, but I'd be willing to give them a shot if it were a caliber in that high capacity that I'd want. Don't think I need to go below .32 ACP for that "shape-that-could-grow-on-me" pistol. What need does it fill in .22?
 
So I came across the CP33 at my LGS last weekend. I must say it caught my eye, and has been sitting the back of my head as, maybe a one day kinda interest. I've since been absorbing the numerous written reviews as well as the usual YouTube Channels that have been able to post their reviews. I've shot the PMR33, and was impressed with the firepower, and capacity. However I didn't want to add the 22 WMR to my assortment. Now that they have a 22LR based pistol, I might be back into the market.

Then to make matters worse Glock comes out with the G44. I hate to say it but knowing how both of these brands have huge aftermarket support, I'm not sure which way I might be leaning. I like the CP33 because of the capacity, but am pretty sure the Glock 44 will have an extended mag option soon.
