I’m looking for just the right red dot for my Sport II

I own a Aimpoint COMPM4s on my 6920, but that’s way more than I want to spend on my Sport II

I also own a three Truglo Tru-Brite red dots, but they are just not that durable in the brightness switch area, I’ve got issues with two of them.

At the moment it looks like a Holosun HS510c for $299 less 10% coupon may be just the answer. I’m looking for a large field of view like the Truglo.

Any other suggestions?

I understand not wanting to spend the money on a high end optic, but I don't agree if the thought is that the Sport is not worthy of having a high end optic.

I say decide on the optic based on your use. If it is going to be used in a defensive role, then you may want the features that are found in optics that are a higher price range than a Bushnell TRS-25... like longer battery life. An Aimpoint model would be a good choice.

If it is purely for range fun, the TRS-25 is hard to beat for price. I'm not familiar with the Holosun you are looking at, but for me, it is too close to price to an Aimpoint Pro, which is a proven, solid choice.

I couldn't agree more.

The number one mistake in the world of rifle equipment is going cheap on the sighting system. Getting a quality sight makes an inexpensive rifle a joy to shoot. Going cheap on the sight will make any rifle, regardless of the cost, not so fun to shoot.

You already have a high quality optic; Aimpoint Comp M4. One of the best in the field. You might consider the Aimpoint PRO. It's less money than the Comp M4, but still a very good optic.

I prefer to keep things in the US and lean toward the Trijicon MRO. It can be had on Amazon for ~$370. I personally like this better than the Comp M4.

If you just can't bring yourself to buy a really good optic, the Primary Arms SLx Advanced Push Button Microdot is a decent option. It has a 50k hour battery life so, turn it on and leave it on. The buttons can be operated with gloves. I have a slightly older version of this and it's a good little optic. For $130 it's a bargain. Not as durable as the others, but it will hold its zero. I ran a long term test on mine and it lasted 3.5 years before the battery actually died.

Bought this Vortex Optics Sparc II Red Dot Sight - 2 MOA for my 2nd Gen Sport about three are four years ago and it has been stellar at the range, if I remember right I paid about 160 bucks for it, money well spent!:)

I have a number of red dots on my competition pistols.

While I love the aimpoints and the c-mores, I cannot afford to equip all my firearms with the top notch red dots.

Personally, you have to make a choice between the reflex and the tube style sights. I find that the tube style sights are easier to zero and also are more durable when making adjustment for various ranges. Some of the reflexes are good but few economical reflex sights can handle frequent elevation adjustments that you get when competing at various ranges.

I also prefer the rotary brightness adjustments as opposed to the pushbutton brightness adjustments. with the pushbuttons, if you hold down the button a fraction too long while adjusting the brightness, the scope can and will shut down and take a few seconds to reset itself.

Anyways, Economic red dots:

Sig Romeo 5
Sig Sauer STS 081 this is a discontinued model but is available on EBAY, I like this a lot because the rotary adjustment dial is on the left hand side which I find more ergonomic for right hand shooters on both rifle and pistol.
Primary Arms
Nikon

I own at least one of all of the above. Some are pushbutton, some are rotary adjustments. I can recommend all of them.

I used to recommend the ultra dots but have been discouraged with the minor negative magnification problem that has recently surfaced with them .

Crankster

I've never seen one that did this. You must have seen this "feature" on one of the really cheapo models. All the red dots I've seen with push buttons require both to be pressed, and held, to shut them off.

Any red dot worth having can be left on anyway.

I have 2 Sig Sauer Romeo 5s mounted on ARs, 2 Bushnell TRS-25s and two Primary Arms red dots. The Romeo 5 is my favorite, followed by the Primary Arms.

For what you're trying to do, it's hard to be a Primary Arms dot, Sig Romeo 5 or Holosun. I have all 3 and could easily recommend any of them. The newer ones have the shake awake feature which is awesome. Anything I get will have this going forward.

Or if you really want to change things up, check out a 1x6 LPVO. Near 1x at the low setting and can be used "similar" to a red dot but you also have magnification when you want it. For under $300, you can get into a nice budget scope (Primary Arms 1x6 shown below).

My Holosun HS510c arrived from Optics Planet today

OMG, the unobstructed field of view is amazing. My CompM4s doesn’t come close to this. From the YouTube reviews and abuse, it should hold up pretty well with great battery life too.

I was a little concerned about the optic width, but it’s just fine seeming very proportional to the Sport II. The Co witness is perfect, with the 2 MOA dot being at the tip of the front sight post (chevron for me from Blitzkrieg)

Another vote for the Aimpoint PRO. :) I've had mine for about 5
years and once zeroed the only thing I do is change the battery
every 2 to 2.5 years. :) That's about a year early from what the
manual from Aimpoint says, but mine is a house/self defense gun
and I want the assured reliability of it working when I pick it up. :) :)

I'm not seeing the logic in spending a lot of money for an optic to hang on a 3 MOA carbine. SS Romeo5 (2 MOA) should be all you need. Anything more is just lipstick on a pig. No, I'm not calling your rifle a pig, it's a figure of speech. ;)

I have an Aimpoint PRO on my HM Defense carbine....which I love but on my last 2 builds went with the Primary Arms Advanced 30mm red dot....the full size tubes seem to work better for me and the PA has rotary controls which I prefer and will work going either direction from 0.......The PA advanced micro dot with rotary dial I just got for my new 10/22 does NOT have that feature which I mistakenly thought it did.................................................... .. .... .................................................. ....as you can see the PA 30mm RDS is an Aimpoint Comp 2 clone:D

I also like 30mm tubes with a 2MOA dot. :) I first tried a EOTech,
but didn't like the open arrangement and the VERY busy display. :(
This was about the time Aimpoint started selling the PRO to the public,
when first released it was LEO only.

I've been more than pleased with the Aimpoint PRO.
I have it mounted on a M&P AR-15OR with folded back up sights( co-witnessed). :) :)
