I was searching for an extended or taller mag. release nut for my 5906. Some very helpful forum members suggested using a 439 mag release nut from MidwayUSA. I thought I'd share some comparisons of the two.
The original mag. release nut was .131" tall and the 439 mag. nut measures .193" tall. The diameter of the original mag. release nut was .274" and the diameter of the 439 mag. release nut is .270"
The new 439 mag. release nut works great. It was a great improvement for less than $3.00.

Makes me wish I had bought more than the one I got for my 5906 square trigger guard target pistol build.

Carnac says that 439 mag release nuts will soon be out of stock.
I think that might be right. I believe MidwayUSA still has them in stock, but they've went from under $3.00 two weeks ago to $6.29 now. That's still really cheap for how well they work.

I saw the earlier thread on that nut, ordered 2 at clearance price from Midway on my last order. Seems like they were less than $3 each. Now to determine which gun to put them on...

Rosewood

I have put the 639 (hard chrome) and 439 (Blue) on all of my 3rd Gen S&W pistols as appropriate to match the original that was removed. They extend the button height just enough to make the magazine release easy and quick without any significant increase in the risk of an unintended magazine release.
