I sure hope that stimulus check gets here fast (kidding). I've been thinking about an older guy fun gun, and bought this SIG MPX PCC (Pistol Caliber Carbine) in 9mm. If you see everything through the prisms of hunting or self-defense, this probably isn't something you want, but I had it out to the range yesterday, and boy is it fun. Highly recommended:

I've heard of them, and my interest in getting a 9mm PCC is for home defense. Put a weapon-mounted light on there and it could fill that role pretty well. But you probably have other tools for that job, I'm guessing.

FWIW, a video popped up on my YouTube page with a title calling the MPX a MP5 killer. Haven't seen the video, so can't comment on the accuracy of that statement.

Question: In your brief experience, do you think brass ejection could be an issue for a lefty? I'm right-handed/left-eye dominant and figured if I ever do get into shooting long guns, it'd probably be as a lefty (not necessarily interested in left-hand controls, though).

Looks business-like! I'll bet it's a lot of fun, especially if you reload 9mm in these times when pistol rounds are flying off the warehouse shelves.

They still make them (mine was made in January of this year), and must have some degree of popularity, they're hard to find in stock. I do think the short-barreled "pistol" or SBR versions are more popular.

I didn't pay a lot of attention to brass ejection, but from what I remember I don't think I'd enjoy it from the port side. All I have access to is an indoor range (which is one of the reasons I wanted a pistol cartridge). It does have ambidextrous controls, so maybe it's not much of a factor.

It was so much fun that if there is an actual stimulus check sent out, I may buy a CZ Scorpion Evo 3 9mm carbine to compare that guns blowback action with the SIG's locked breech type. They're thin on the ground also though.
 
$1,799.00 !!! Phew! That's a wedge for a 9mm PCC even if it has gas operation. Would be interesting to shoot one side by side with a CMMG RDB action carbine.

It's only money, if they wanted you to keep it they'd have made it bigger. :) Heck, you oughta see what they charge for extra magazines.

Prices are funny; after November it will seem expensive or cheap based on election results.

I have a JRC (Just Right Carbine) in 9mm that was just over $500. They have gone up somewhat. The great thing is you can reverse the ejection port to either side. As a lefty that was the selling point for me.

Bullet Bob—why does your gun in your picture have what looks to be a “regular” width magazine, and the one in Jerry’s video have a narrow looking pistol magazine?

Not the OP, but I think it's just the angle of the photo making the mag look full-width when it's not. You have to look close where it goes into the mag well to see it.
 
I believe they are two different brands. The OP’s is a Sig, and the one on the video is a Smith & Wesson M&P branded gun. I think that may explain the differences in magazines.
 
I have two blowback 9mm ARs, having one for over a decade now. Truly as fun as a barrel of monkeys. At my club range, we have a slew of pistol caliber ranges and the 9mm is a treat at sub 100 yards.

That said, I expect you get what you pay for, e.g. gas operated Sig. The blowback 9mms always remind me they seem to have more felt recoil than a 5.56, albeit much less blasty on the business end. A good gas or locked breech 9mm is rare and probably priced accordingly. Having picked up a 9mm HK roller clone recently, blowback is fine, but locked is divine.

Wonderful old guy fun gun for sure. Thanks for the economic stimulus too!
 
SIG magazines specifically for the MPX. According to reviews, they're made by Lancer. A lot of the other pistol caliber carbines are made with AR-15 lowers the manufacturers already have, with an insert for a pistol magazine.

Many of the pistol carbines use Glock magazines, and/or the maker's, if they also make pistols, like Ruger.

I like the SIG MPX magazines for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is that you can load them like rifle magazines - just place on top, and push down. As opposed to pistol magazines where you press down the round at the rear, and slide in.

On the rare occasion I take a Steyr GB to the range it reminds me what a PITA regular pistol mags can be.
 
I have a lot of fun with my MPX. The Ruger PC9 is also a lot of fun. At about $500 it is a blast to shoot.
 
The SIG MPX is a great gun. I SBR'd mine and shoot in local PCC matches with it. Added a Hiperfire trigger and it is super smooth.

Kuglespritz, did yours originally have the gen 1 MPX trigger? I wanted the latest model partly due to the new trigger. It's pretty good for the type, but I'm not going to compete, either.
