300 Blackout

I've had no issues.

Just be aware -- if you are not already -- that it is all too easy to mix 300 BLK and 5.56 at the range, especially if one has other shooters present who have limited experience. 300 Blackout WILL chamber in 5.56, and if fired the results are reportedly catastrophic. Google to read up on this.

Lots of people have ways of keeping things straight, including elastic labeling bands for magazines, paint, or even being sure to only take one caliber of ammo to the range at a time.

My son built a 300 BLK upper and it runs great. Research on the best adjustable gas blocks if you are going to use a suppressor. He wanted something bigger than 223 for hogs. He set it up identical to his 223 upper but he uses a vortex scope on it. This setup is great for hunting.

As Murdock stated, proceed with caution if you plan to own both setups. I was impressed that my son marked, color coated magazines and uppers for safety. He did his research. At the time, he was only 16!

Two scenarios here :

If you are talking a build, then research everything as far as the dynamics of an ar build, price & quality of the parts and acc's to achieve your intended purpose.

If you are not mechanically inclined, short on time or tools then a complete upper is the way to go. Uppers now can be a better deal in price and performance than a build.

Ammo choice correlates again to wether you are a reloader or if your goal is target shooting vs hunting vs defense.

The 300 project will in ether case, be a fun and rewarding experience.
I am all in on 30 cal builds and dont regret any of them.

One of my favorite gun-related pictures is the one below, showing what happened in a .223 SBR that had a 300 BLK chambered and fired in it. You can see the 300BLK case chambered, and how the smaller bore extruded the .308 bullet. Also note the base of the case is blown out, so imagine what happened to the bolt and carrier.

I have a 300BLK carbine, but don't own a .223/5.56. Those friends of mine who have both generally use the milspec metal magazines for the .223 and use Magpul plastic magazines for their 300BLK. The difference in appearance is immediate, and the milspec mag relates to the military caliber. It's not foolproof, the user still has to use his brain.

Here's one I built for myself not to long ago. It runs great I haven't had a malfunction of any kind. To date I've only shot supersonic rounds because I'm still waiting on the stamp from the ATF for the suppressor , then I'll try some subsonics.

Mine looks like that one, except I have the ROMEO 5 sight on it,,

I lucked out, and ordered it before the craziness started, and I spent under $500 for everything for the gun, including the optic, and ammo,,
Except for the optic, everything came from PSA,, including the ammo, they were great.

I really like the gun, I have shot 5 different bullet weights,, all function.

Yesterday, at a gunshow, I got a box of 210 grain Sierra HPBT bullets to reload the 300 AAC

That was the first time I have seen bullets that heavy for .308 since I have owned the gun.

The guy had two of the 500 round boxes,, I only bought one,, I am sure I will regret not getting the other box,,

Yeah, definitely keep 300 out of 223/556 barrels, big kablewie lol.
Mine came with a 300BO marked mag.
As far as suppressing, I just picked up my Daniel Defense DDM4 .300 BO and instead of changing the gas setting, they give you a separate buffer spring for running suppressed. I guess it works? I'm waiting on my suppressor to come in, so it'll be months before I get to see, but they get no negative reviews on the system.

I said I would NEVER build an AR, but I recently saw a Wilson Combat in 300 HAM'R on the GunSmoker, I bid on it and lost??

I seriously considered 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, and 300 Blackout, prior to purchasing a 308 AR... after studying the different small frame blown out cartridges, I decided on the .30, I have decided to build a 300 HAM'R... all you need is a barrel, but its best if you use the 300 Blackout magazines..

I have no interest in going subsonic and suppressed, and the 300 HAM'R was designed to meet or slightly surpass the old .30-.30. The 300 is coming along very nicely and I think you would be very happy with either cartridge, but if you wish to go surpressed, you should stick with the Blackout.

I am going with the 40 coil buffer spring, but pretty straightforward otherwise.. and building a small frame AR is so much easier that going with the puzzle of a large frame AR..

Good luck on your transition.. Daniel Defense builds good stuff!

I should add that Wilson Combat has a LOT of 300 HAM'R Ammo, everything from .90 gr at 2800 fps, to 150 gr. down around 2300 fps, lots of ammo!

I'm hoping everyone was alright, (except for your pride), that's not your's is it Eric??

Hell no!! lol It belonged to an idiot buddy of mine who got his ammo mixed up. He called me after it ka-boomed and didn't know what happened. I went over to his house to dissect the rifle. During the autopsy I pounded an extruded .30 cal bullet out of the barrel. Just some shrapnel in his face and chest but nothing serious. Didn't even draw blood...:D IF I was dumb enough to do that to my DDM4 Carbine, I'd drive to the nearest Interstate and jump in front of an oncoming semi! lol

Thanks, the process is on to suppress it. However, I did buy an Eotech for it this past weekend, just to realize I needed the Eotech with Night Vision if it's going to be suppressed for obvious reasons, but my Saint pistol happily benefitted from the Eotech 512 so Eotech with NV is coming up next. Here's the DD with the 512 before I had my "apithaney."

Yep, we've all got "Buddy's" like that, glad he wasn't hurt, gun gonna need "polished out"!

Lefty 9" 300 blk I assembled. Supers only. Great pistol.

Very kool little rifle, mine's gonna be more in the 30-30 category as far as usage, but I'm impressed with the wide variety of loads that Wilson has for the 300 HAM'R,,, and like you, I just love the .30 cal platform..

If it wasn't for the HAM'R? I would be running a 300 Blackout too!

Whomever did it, that's a nice job with the cutaway in your picture!
