This came home with me today. Cimarron "Custer" Model. Marked I Co. 7th Cavalry on the butt. Has the correct patent dates, inspector's marks and Orville W. Ainsworth's cartouche on the grips. .45 Colt (Long Colt) and now if I can find some affordable ammo or even brass to load my own.

If you shoot it you will love it. I have one marked "F" Company with all the markings that go with it. Mine is extremely accurate and has been 100% reliable. Notice the differences it has over the later issues of the Colt 1873.

I doubt there is any "affordable" factory ammo, if you can even find any in stock.
Try ordering .45 brass direct from Starline. It might take a few weeks before it is available but they will come through.
That's how I got another 500 rounds of brass back in September.

This is my Cimarron 7th Cav, along with a 5 1/2" Cimarron in their "original" (antiqued) finish:

Nice gun!

Do you know the make on this one? Does it have the 4 click action or is it that new retractable firing pin action that Uberti has been putting in?

Neat gun, and a pretty good effort to be historically correct.

I’d be interested in the maker too. I noticed that Cimarron is offering this in an Uberti-manufactured version on their website. I had one of these back in the 1990s, identical with Ainsworth cartouche and all, same box as yours, that was definitely not made by Uberti; I seem to remember Armi San Marco.

I had two "Artillery" Models by Cimarron that I used for SASS, until I could afford a pair of Colt's with real ivory handles (legal, documented and just before the ban). Not much difference mechanically.

I have two copies of the old SAA. Like them both.

Yours is an eye catcher. Do you lan to use blackpowder or go with the standard load of Unique?

Kevin

Kevin, I plan to just use Unique or something similar. Although I've been loading 45 ACP for years, this is my first 45 Colt and I haven't gone through my reloading books yet.

Congratulations! I have the same make yet marked 10th Cavalry(Buffalo Soldiers) shoots wonderfully! Also have a non marked standard calvary model not marked-both Cimarron Ubertis'...have fun!

Here is my Uberti Cavalry,(F CO 7 CAV) and my Ainsworth Colt. The Uberti is about a 1/4 pound heavier than the Colt and some of the markings aren't exact. But Uberti did a really good job of making a shootable Cavalry pistol without breaking the bank. The Colt was rebuilt by Dave Lanara and case colored by Doug Turnbull.

Uberti still makes the 4 click lock-up, you just need to make sure you're not buying the other version. They make both now.

Interesting, I didn't know that.

Do you happen to know which models have it? They don't seem to publish that information anywhere.

I've heard that they phased out the proper 4 click action and they are all the new action with the safety now.
